#Cat #OfTheDay is #Gobblekins and here are her toebeans!

Little shorthair orange cat curled up asleep on her folded towel on top of a cardboard box against a brick wall. She has tucked her face between her front two legs and stretched all of her feet out towards us, even stretching her front left toes apart to show her little sharp claws and her pink toebeans! I think she has more prominent toebeans than many other cats. Her claws seem to rest more on top. Her son, Lasagne, also had large toebeans!

The local starlings and jays seem to love taunting the eagles while they jockey for position on this popular snag on the mountain, and I never cease to be amused by the looks the eagles give them. Every photo a cartoon. (Feel free to add your own captions.)

The sky is a haze of grey-blue fall morning and the smoke of a nearby wildfire.

A closeup of a couple of brittlestem mushrooms. They have a ridged texture that looks like it’s been shellacked with a thick coat of varnish from the rain.

This is the slope of a weird underpass that has a sidewalk to nowhere. It starts and ends in places where pedestrians can’t get to. And there’s this fabulous colony of moss that reminds me of glacier mice. I wish I could get closer but I had to take this picture from the car. (Don’t worry, I wasn’t driving)

A sloping hill of stones and concrete, with some grass at the top, and lots of balls of moss nearer the bottom. Each moss ball is a few inches along, some are alone and some are clustered. They look like a herd of green mice.

This friend swooped right over my head this morning--not so close I had to duck, but close enough that, startled, I did. Eir talons were full of long grasses & pine needles that fluttered behind em like ribbons. E landed up in the nest e shares with eir mate (just behind this "window" in the branches).

I was so startled (e had apparently been watching me silently for a bit from a nearby snag), but like a nerd I threw up my camera anyway to try & catch a (very blurry) photo.

A terribly out of focus photo of an American Bald eagle escaping my camera in my haste and the intercession of wildfire smoke. Eir broad, dark brown wings, fingers curved and spread, are stretched wide above and below eir body. The sharply pointed curve of eir beak is open and eir heavy white tailfeathers seem to dissolve into the long, bedraggled strands of plant material e holds in firmly in eir talons. The surrounding sky is grey and fuzzed with particulate, blurring the eagle and making the light strange and grey.

So the convoyers saw how many people were planning on counter-protesting in Victoria (we outnumbered them last time by a lot, this time it would’ve been around 10-1 or more) and decided not to show up. From what I heard they were urging their Victoria members to join with the Nanaimo crowd, but I’m guessing the hour and a half drive is gonna keep those numbers low.

So yah, we shut the fuckers down, at least in the capitol. Now for falafel.

I saw three (3!) Lizards today! One brown anole & two geckos!
But I got photos of none of them, because they were too speedy!
