@soatok I did a lot of evangelism for GPGP during the last three decades. But there were never more than a handful of people in my circle who were actively using it. We all know it has its issues as it doesn’t encrypt headers while it’s not easy to setup and use for Joe Average. So I only had a few people actively using it and most of them stopped after a while because no one else was using it or they lost their keypair after setting up a new notebook.
Yes Signal has some points that can be criticised, like the requirement of a phone number to register or the fact that others can see your phonenumber and Signal username when joining a public group.
All these things and some more can be criticised. But that doesn’t change the fact that Signals encryption is secure and that they don’t collect any data on their users. It’s easy to use, it’s secure, Signal respects your privacy and they don’t collect more data than absolutely necessary.
And that’s the reason I don’t get tired telling people to use Signal when they want secure and private communication.
