Apple Newsroom: “#Apple extends its #privacy leadership with new updates across its platforms”
Locking and hiding apps behind FaceID via the OS versus in-app (some apps let you do similar, others don’t) is long overdue.
Improved contact permissions - selecting which contact can be accessed - is also long overdue.
Private Cloud Computing is interesting, especially being stateless, with the cryptographic attestation, a third-party providing cloaking for IP addresses, and “verifiable transparency” of software running on PCC… but having such personal data leave the device to be processed in the cloud for certain #AI requests gives me major pause.
Hoping this is totally opt-out (“I only want to process on-device, even if it means some things can’t be done due to hardware limitations”) - or better yet - opt-in. There’s still a lot of trust in Apple with this implementation (a problem with AI in general currently).
Apple will only get flowers from me if we can not use AI on the device altogether. I don’t use Siri outside of driving, where it can actually be useful. 🫠
Also... the plans for integrating ChatGPT into Siri makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Imagine opting out of PCC, and Siri sending something "by mistake" to OpenAI, lol.
