"just use linux" is basically "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" for nerds
Recent grad with my Masters of Software Development at #BostonUniversity. (Jan 2024)
Working in AI training, freelance. Had been working in enrollment for Pearson Virtual Schools. (6.5 years) Looking for a permanent or long term ongoing work.
This is my real-name professional profile, but as in all environments, #BlackLivesMatter, #NoTERFs. #NoNazis.

Interview Monday. Cross thine fingers
@kellogh Sorry but the answer is... Depends on the context. Have a nice day.
Had an interview today for a 6-month contract gig and i think it went superbly, but he wouldn't tell me how I did, which is gonna drive me crazy.
I think my verdict on Baldur's Gate 3 is "not for me" but honestly? I think we've advanced in tech/genre mores that I don't want that much closeness to my characters. They're well detailed and their stories are engaging and they feel so close. They feel realer than I want my characters to feel. Sometimes i gotta leave you in a cage to die. I don't want to question my own ethics when playing these games.
@Jbasoo im not THAT depressed
No, I'm not creating a fancy wooden #conesofdunshire ..
They are the legs of two very important book cases.
That said if you want to hire me to make one i can, but I need you to provide the specs. Let's say $2500 and $5000 versions exist. But if you just want to give me a job doing #newgrad or junior #softwaredevelopment jobs, hot me up too!
Gen Z language and habits are fine. Stop coming at me thinking that because I have a degree in Linguistics that I have your ageist and classist back. Every generation goes through this, I am disappointed that we millennials have started the same ol same ol with criticizing the next generation.
I am working on an album with Fruity Loops Studio (FL Studio whatever) and I have the training for music (Peabody Prep and a rock band) but I'm new to the electonic stuff (creating. i've been a fan since teen years). This is getting out of hand the point is, I played something and said "What genre of music am I even writing?" And my husband told me I make "electro-spoop" So ... happy halloween
Our gay old man couple neighbors just put Trump signs in their yard. Sometimes I hope the sun just explodes.
@raganwald @programming_quotes also, how does he think people learn prog languages without using them til they "know" the language
@fogoplayer and why can't I escape threads? lol Everwhere I go. EM or MZ is in my business. I want to make connections without them all up in my craw thank you.
@fogoplayer if I could get a company to even look at my portfolio... then I'm set! lol But I really appreciate you giving me an evaluation on these things. It gives me confidence that it's not just me being useless. haha. I will say that off and on I have practiced with leetcode and also I took design patterns and that's one of my understandings that I worry is dwindling in my work. So I appreciate the reminder I'll revisit that and perhaps create a demo or two that use those. It's so hard to know what is the best use of my time without a job or education directive so I've just been wandering in the direction of AI/Data engineering stuff (I'm still at the level where a lot of the learning applies to both). This gives me a sense of purpose again. Thank you so much for taking the time.
@fogoplayer Thank you for this support! Im working on a django/mysql project with a friend to help people apply for jobs... But I can't share it at this point. (But I've been using it on my own in its incomplete state. )
@fogoplayer hi! I have 2 bachelors in non-tech, (psyc and linguistics) where I got into coding for my honors thesis. I got a master's in Software Development at Boston U last January. I continue taking Udemy courses to beef up my abilities.
Since then I've been doing freelance ai training (for coding and general context) which is inconsistent and often does not pay the bills. At my current project I've been promoted because of my accuracy and attention to detail. No now I evaluate the work of other coders and send the final work to the client.
At https://stephenmossis.cool/ i have a little personal site with essentially my resume and a gallery of my woodworking projects. There isn't room to recount my personal projects here, but here's a start and you can find the rest of the portfolio or http://guthub.com/SRDMoss
The portfolio includes projects that demo HTML, CSS, JS, bootstrap, Node.js, Vue.js, RESTful endpoints, use of external APIs, password encryption, SQL, MongoDB, and more!
Been reading a lot of articles about how AI is killing the job market for junior devs. They say most companies will have a handful of senior devs managing it and no one else
I want to work in tech, but there's practically nothing for junior devs out there and those get snapped up by young new grad geniuses with whom I can't compete.
With those senior devs, I wonder who will run things when they move on.
If you have a job for a NEW GRAD. I'd like to see it. Please don't make me regret my masters degree forever. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Please dont let me try to make a living as a writer, if you think rejection sensitivity is bad for job interviews... Wait til you pitch a literary agent
@raiderrobert me.
Can you boost this please? I'm sort of load-testing / trying to reproduce a bug, and I think I need a bit more traffic to do so. Thank you!
@renwillis I saw this and came here to say what you said. So .. follow.
