My adult nephew paid me a huge compliment. He played the #hypercasual #gayme I helped build with his daughter. More than liking the game, she was amazed that her grand-uncle built it. My nephew told me she had lots of question about becoming an #gamedev herself. Texting with my nephew, I told her that #godot has a fantastic resource for "Kids Can Code". (The app is a bit like the magic ball of eight, but for human bears and their admirers)

This U.N. report was not about trans-women in sports. Across the globe "mixed category" (men and women) is squeezing out women's divisions. Thus, lost opportunities for women to win. Also, the number 980 is not official, verified, or provable. It's based on a website where people complain. They don't have to offer evidence. The sports on that website include flying disc golf, poker, darts, and Irish folk dancing. OK, maybe 20 or 25 trans-women athletes won, but nowhere near 980.

@bazzargh @cstross

These space probes, many of whom are in our solar system illegally, don't pay any taxes and use up all of our resources including our sunlight. They're there, just zooming around the solar system, soaking up our sun - which is the best sun by the way - and emitting bleeps and bloops which are turning our whales gay, and they're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats. But I have told Voyager to leave our solar system, which it is. Make Sol Great Again, thank you godbless.

Happy #throwbackthursday with a “Designer” TV. (I did all the PowerPoint presentations for a CEO at one startup. All in all, he was really great. He did have one little quirk. He liked to put quote marks around words for emphasis. I removed them. When he asked me why I explained: “You’d never go out with a woman who was called a “lady” in quote marks.” He roared with laughter and said, “I get it.”

What was ironic about that the LinkedIn love letter, is that it was written by one of the people who jumped ship early on.

I'm a battle scarred vet of 5 start-ups. I saw firsthand the douchebaggery called "the dark triad." On LinkedIn, I read a "love letter" post about the worst of the start-ups on my resume. The technology was innovative, but many of the male leadership exemplified "the dark triad" that made them assholes. The triad is narcissism, machiavellianism, and non-clinical psychopathy. If you're ever wondered why jerks are successful, you'll find this article eye-opening: cleverism.com/successful-jerks

"I think there's a world where we'll look back on our advertising-saturated era with the same bewilderment with which we now regard cigarette smoke, child labor, or public executions: a barbaric practice that we allowed to continue far too long because we couldn't imagine an alternative."

@dougbinks True! Even so, vid tutorials still contain old awkward problems with demos. For decades I've sat through demos of new systems where the I.T. person writes "test" in every field of a data input screen. That doesn't provide new users with any context of what info is actually needed. The other problem also occurred frequently: The demonstrator makes a mistake and hastily redoes the task, but it's not clear what the mistake was or how the re-do solves it. I see vids like this a lot.

And here's what I got yesterday. Very tasty. Also completely safe for people who have peanut allergies.

Airline provided snack bag of mini-graham crackers. Tasty, but not a full meal like in the 1960s (lol)

For #throwbackthursday I ran across this illustration of an airline meal from yesteryear

I've seen a lot of humor regarding side projects. I admit that I'm a classic example. I know I should be working on the marketing plan for my new app, but then I got involved in my local community food bank. They have a very small staff and I'm the volunteer I.T. Dude as I know a lot about computers. It's enjoyable and satisfying work. Here's a non-humorous article on side projects: buffer.com/resources/side-proj

Besides the content of the meme, I also examined the metadata using an Exif viewer. Yup. Obsolete use of JFIF (instead of modern JPEG) and TIFF history. This is not conclusive proof that this meme is from the IRC, but it's an important forensic clue.

Some evidence suggests that transpeople are born with a body map in their brains that doesn’t match their physical bodies. It’s kind of like ‘phantom limbs’ -- people who were born without an arm or leg, still report having sensations in these limbs they never had. The brain is wired to expect those limbs. This could be an aspect of the trans experience.
