The "OHFF Park Rally" took place last weekend. I activated OHFF-1004, a beautiful island QTH just outside of Turku in southwest Finland. Thanks to Kimmo OH1CM for enabling the required boat trip.
Tammo island is uninhabited and magical. Lush green vegetation, a fox and deer greeting me upon arrival, and birds singing enthusiastically (ramp up the volume on the video!) as background to the band audio. Enjoyable.
About 220Qs made around OH and Europe on 80/40/30/20m CW/SSB. Tnx!
Brief activation of OHFF-0547 on Friday, with the aim of testing my new ATAS-120A mobile antenna (40m-10m).
My 2-year-old was sleeping in the back of the car, so I worked mostly on CW. When I switched to SSB for OH hunters, the predictable happened and the activation ended quickly 😅
The ATAS worked well, with DX in the log up to 10m. SWR on 40 was just under 2:1, and would probably be better if I made a solid ground connection. This time just used the mag. mount on the car roof. Thanks all!
@OH3CUF Thanks to you too! It could have been worse :D Need thicker pants or more trouser layers, because my butt was the first place to start feeling colder heh...
We've been on winter vacation in Finnish Lapland this week, and today I managed to quickly activate OHFF-0024, Pyhä-Luosto National Park. My brother-in-law came along to see what this amateur radio craziness is all about.
I don't like the cold, but Jouni @OH3CUF encouraged me to try not working from the car. The WX was fortunately not too bad: a little above 0C but quite windy.
Made QSOs almost exclusively on 40m SSB/CW with OH stations, as a demo of the hobby. Thanks all! #wwff #ohff
@OH3CUF Thank you! You deserve a Christmas present for hunting me down on so many band/mode slots :)
Today I activated OHFF-1644 near Turku in SW Finland. This nature reserve is next to lake Littoistenjärvi, which has already frozen over. Temps were about -5C and it was very windy, but fortunately this QTH allows operation from inside the car!
The money band/mode this time was 20m SSB, which was a lot of fun. I was also very pleasantly surprised to work 9 P2P QSOs, because the WWFF Agenda for today was practically empty when I entered my info there in the morning.
Merry Christmas to all!
@OH3CUF Thanks for the 40m QSO!
Yesterday was Finland's Independence Day. I activated OHFF-0551 in the morning, mainly to participate in a one-hour OH CW contest. Also made regular QSOs before heading on a family trip for the rest of the day.
The QTH is one of the few that can be operated from a car in my vicinity. The parking area is hard to reach in full winter conditions, but since we have very little snow in SW Finland right now, it wasn't a problem. A new bird observation tower is under construction at the site. #wwff
@OH3CUF Some serious dedication there :)
@OH3CUF Unfortunate and all too common behavior re: calling and calling and calling despite not matching the requested criteria.
DX hunting is the worst in this regard, but it seems all kinds of hunting brings this behavior to the forefront :)
This morning I made a quick activation of OHFF-0190 / FI-0242 (in Turku, SW Finland) before heading to work.
I try to activate at least one park per month, and November's was missing... My employer offers 1h/week of work time for activities that improve well-being (a carry-over from Covid times), so this morning was a perfect opportunity.
Time was limited, so I worked just on 20m and 40m, mostly SSB. About half the QSOs were with OH hunters. Also tested Ham2K PoLo for spotting.
Thanks all!
