Being “for free speech” means 1) not supporting state censorship of any books, newspapers, or stations because we disagree with the viewpoints on them, including blasphemy. 2) supporting the rights of private bookstores, networks, playoffs, & publishers not to carry “lawful but awful” speech.

Even when dealing with small businesses here I run into that scammy feeling way more often than I used to.

Protip: If you're getting estimates from contractors and one says something along the lines "You can trust me, I'm a good christian", under no circumstances should you hire that person.

Nothing against Christians, but if someone feels the need to call it out in their business dealings, its probably a red flag.

As I got older and reflected on the differences, I decided that Florida was just a state full of assholes, its where all the miserable people went, and haven't been back since my grandparents died. Unfortunately, it seems like the people, or at least their mindset, have escaped Florida, and are now spreading throughout the country. They've taken over the boards and upper management of every large business.

Another time we were all headed to Disney World, so my Grandpa reserved a minivan from a local car rental place. When we got there, they didn't have the one he reserved, tried to give him one that was too small for all of us, overcharge a lot of fees, and were just generally uncooperative. They didn't give two shits that an old man was trying to take his grandkids to Disney World, they just wanted to get as much money as the could from him.

Buying fruit from the stand by the highway? He'll probably overcharge you if you're not watching. Same for souvenirs from the shops at the little tourist attractions all over the place down there.

I went to visit them for a week, and mowed their lawn for them. My Grandma called they guy mowing her lawn to tell him they didn't need it this week, and he cussed her out, accused her of taking food from his kids' mouths, and so on.

My grandparents moved down to Florida, and I have distinct memories of everyone there being out to get you, and just generally miserable. It felt like you had to constantly be on guard, because nearly everyone you wanted to do business with was trying to scam you or screw you over in some way if you weren't careful. Like buying a used car from a shady dealership, but for EVERYTHING.
