Some fun facts about this guy:

* Started his Fediverse adventure on Lemmy. First on lemmy.ml but now on Beehaw.
* Regards the Fediverse a good "space" in which to try out micro-blogging again, after having left Twitter years ago (way before current affairs).
* Interested in:
#computers, #FLOSS, #Linux, #science, #reading, listening to #music, drinking a bit too much #coffee.
* Lives in the Netherlands.
* Posts and boosts (mostly) in English and Dutch.
* Born in the mid-80s.
*
#Bicycle #commuter.
*
#Flexitarian
* He/him.
* Has selected "Nederlands" as language, but English and (to a lesser extent) German are fine.

My current banner is a cropped version of a wallpaper I found on Reddit years ago. Unfortunately I no longer have any idea to whom I should attribute it.

Profile picture:
Selfie of me sitting at a window with a light grey curtain, partially blocking the incoming daylight to prevent overexposure to the photograph. I am wearing my glasses and have my head slightly tilted while I am smiling with my front teeth bared.

Banner image:
A manipulated photograph of a magpie with the head of an orca that has opened its mouth fairly wide. Its wings are still folded alongside the body in a way actual birds would do when they sit on e.g. a fence post or branch.

"Ad blockers are unethical—ads are how they pay to keep the lights on!”

Exactly. It's how THEY pay to keep the lights on. It's not how I pay for anything. I didn't agree to see ads, although I'm ok with some ads; what I definitely didn't do is agree to be tracked and profiled and have arbitrary third-party code running on my computer just so I could read this awful, pointless, SEO-ified shitfest of an article that doesn't come close to answering the question I was googling.

Even though I absolutely love , sometimes I get tired of encountering the same issues over and over again, and of the "it's 99% there" situation.

Let me know if you agree with these issues or not, and if you have others that personally bother you.

(Also, 2nd video out of 4 that isn't edited by me, previous feedback has been incorporated partially, let me know what you thought!)

@moon@akiba.social I had them in there from another post and had not removed them (I did a few seconds after posting). Calckey leaves in hashtags from previous posts sometimes (if using the dedicated field for them instead of adding them in-line). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Found these in an old book. Any idea what they are? Rationing stamps maybe?

Five sheets of small stamps. Look rather old.

I'm not saying we live in the dumbest timeline, but these are all recent headlines.

Headlines: Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg agree to hold cage fight. Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Lauren Boebert a “a little bitch” on house floor. Missing OceanGate CEO aboard Titanic sub complained “safety is pure waste.” Trump's latest Excuse: Boxes of Classified Documents Were Mixed With Golf Shirts. California man whose billionaire stepfather is on missing sub asks Only Fans model to sit on him 30 minutes after pleading for prayers.

Thanks to everyone who reached out, fediDB.org and fediverse.info will remain online going forward.

I'm not going anywhere either, though I think I need a break from the fediverse for a few days.

I think this take on #Meta joining the #Fediverse is a very good one. We are going to be able to connect to people on Meta's platform, but we are not forced onto it.

@pork_slam@mastodon.social @dansup@mastodon.social He is only stating that two sites showing stats and (health of) available fedi servers is being ended. He is not leaving Pixelfed (AFAIK) and I doubt this has had anything to do with Meta. 🙂

The site
fediverse.observer may be an alternative in many use cases, albeit that it looks less fancy.

@stux this is a bad move, from all sides

If FB / Meta wanted to sow distrust before the coming 2024 US election, then they have succeeded, by creating infighting between instances, so none of us can organize.

The classic move in chinese fiction, is when a dying rich person whisper a nothing burger to someone he hates, right in front of everyone, to let them murder each other.

This is the time when every instances should actually come together instead.All admins should sit down and talk.

@lackthought@mastodon.social For Lemmy there is Jerboa, for Kbin there is a third party app in the making called Kmoon (iirc). Jerboa is for Android, Kmoon for iOS.

@anathema_device@bne.social @chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca On LemmyNet there is e.g. Beehaw, which definitely does moderate well.
I have interacted with the threaded part of kbin.social but mostly from beehaw.org (while having lurked kbin to pick stuff to follow).
Kbin.social's microblogging accounts I should be able to follow from this account (calckey.social). If I were to interact mostly with people on Kbin for either of them I might make an account there but (for now) it does not really matter.
