Just learned a bash trick.

~- means "the directory you were in before this one"

So, if you want to copy a file from mercury and you are in jupiter:

mercury$ ls
ufo
mercury$ cd jupiter
jupter$ cp ~-/ufo .

Kind of neat. Use with caution!

My son figured out that the best way to run #lmms with support for #midi keyboards (#rolandA41) on #ubuntu is not the #deb package or the #flatpak, but #wine. As many workers I must use #Windows daily, useless to say that it essentially a bag of crap...

I personally stopped to use it since 2009, I really forgot how bad can be for other tasks until my son decided to play videogames on its laptop...

While I am totally against it we allowed him because the excellent grades, so basically for school he must use #Devuan / #Linux and to play videogames he reboots in Windows and steam, although he plays mostly #roblox (🤢) with his friends.

And in Windows happens whatever craziest thing... And I am surprised how shitty can be Windows to do anything from graphics to play...

But even more surprise how videogamers cheat about Windows... It is the shittiest OS evere but they want to looks like software expert so they confuse high-end hardware with optimization, only because you need 3/4 of it only to run Windows smooth...

On any other OS but not the commercial ones, including: #Android; #ChromeOS; #MacOS; you get better performance.

I dare to say the #enshittification started with #WindowsVista...

This is exactly the type of cooperation that the Linux gaming space can benefit from. Exciting to see. It would be fantastic to also see a modding framework come together after Nexus abandoned their Linux app in development. #Gaming #Linux

Canonical Ubuntu 26.04 is likely shipping pipewire as a snap.

"We have a roadmap. One of the things we're looking at for 26.04 is shipping Pipewire as a Snap on the desktop. Now this is a bit of a risky move, because there is a crowd of people who love to say that the first thing they do on Ubuntu is remove snapd, and if they do that on this future release, they'll have no sound. Why start with Pipewire? Well, it interacts with things like cameras, so it would allow us to more easily backport support for newer cameras and speakers to Ubuntu."

I've realized in years of #selfhosting that #linux philosophy "everything is a file" fits good for me. I try not to #selfhost complex systems rather than share docs, music, pass-db, etc across my devices via #syncthing. This simplifies things so much. It's easier to backup and you can peek soft that you like, and you depend less from "yet another" #homelab architecture change. Now I'm moving my tasks from #webdav to my notes folder. Will see it works
