@jkretrotech I know exactly how that goes! Enjoy!
Idahoan 🥔 living in Finland 🇫🇮, working at Hamina Wireless. CWNE #233. I'm into old computers, retro videogames, 3D printing, and fixing stuff.
@jkretrotech I know exactly how that goes! Enjoy!
My PowerBook 160 must have been dropped at some point, as one of the serial ports is missing right off the PCB. My 145B had completely different ports, so I couldn't borrow one from that, so I decided to design and 3D print a blank. 👍
I hate that iOS app developers are leaving iOS 15 and thus the iPod touch behind, especially for apps that target kids. I get it, but I hate it.
Something I need a bunch of: small MicroSD cards, in capacities like:
💾 128 MB
💾 512 MB
💾 1 GB
💾 4 GB
I need them for things like Game Boy flashcarts and SCSI hard disk emulators for old computers. They don't need to be fast, just reliable. Any ideas on where to find them?
@NanoRaptor This would be a great question for Randall Munroe’s “What If?” channel.
I always enjoy seeing the “Pub” tram around Helsinki! 🍺🚋🇫🇮
@dkalintsev @sfoskett if the offer is portable, I’d love to keep them out of the landfill! 7 through 11 are iconic, if limited by the technology at the time.
@badgerops @jamiesaker it is! There are a bunch of us at #TinkerDifferent who love this type of thing, exactly.
In Poland, I ate Zapiekanka. Bread, mushrooms, tons of melty cheese, and ketchup for 3.50€. Delicious.
@ActionRetro Dang, no luck with either my US or Finnish phone numbers. Bummer, I've been watching for a nice Gateway 200STM like the one you have there, but I'm not sure how I'd get it to Finland anyway. 🤔
Time to finish up the PowerBook 160 with a BlueSCSI kit from @onegeekarmy!
This card does SCSI solid state storage and SCSI ethernet emulation (which means Wi-Fi support for this 1992 machine). I’ve never soldered castellated joins before; they’re pretty fun!
Hey, that works! It’s not razor sharp, but I’ll take it. #macintosh
@nulleric @MuseumJoe Sad to be missing this! Literally using my BlueSCSI now. Absolutely amazing!
After over 14 months without, I’m pretty thrilled to have smuggled a couple of Macs into Finland! 🍎🇫🇮
The 145B has a good LCD for the 160 (thanks for the assist, @thisdoesnotcomp!).
I’ll get a BlueSCSI for storage and Wi-Fi, and then I need to figure out a battery. 🤔
A small thing I fixed on my blog last night: Reverting from the "X" to The Bird. It will always be Twitter to me. To-do: add a link to my Mastodon. 🤪
I've finally moved from Blogger to Jekyll, and with it, I wrote a new blog about every handheld mobile device I've never owned, ranging from my Palm M105 to my iPhone 13 mini.
If that's interesting to you, you can find it (and my new blog) here:
Is there anyone out there who has worked on IrDA within the Arduino ecosystem? Strait IR stuff is plentiful, but I’m struggling to find anything about IrDA. It’s a tough one to Google for, too.
@gsuberland I have been enjoying Zed. The ChatGPT integration is out of the way enough that I didn’t even know it was there. It’s a good, simple text editor like Atom was - that’s what I wanted.
I managed to get Hamina Network Planner technically running in Windows XP on my Asus 1005HA netbook (2 GB of RAM, Intel Atom) from 2009. It's unusable, and connecting an XP machine to the internet is a terrible idea, but it was fun to (almost) see heatmaps.
