This is my first didactic paper - Overall it was a fun process and I am definitely up for another round.
I think more scientists should try to publish their teaching materials along with the reasoning of the didactic design.
We thus redesigned our teaching from a stand-alone PyMOL session to a learning path running throughout the course allowing new functions to be introduced in context, progressive increase in difficulty and spaced repetition of key functions.
At the end of the course most students were able to write scripts performing relatively advanced analysis and displays such as colouring by B-factor or vacuum electrostatics.
We have new paper in @BiophysicistJ about our
@strucbio TEACHING!
We have developed a semester-long learning path that integrate structure analysis using PyMOL in relevant biochemical context and support development of the students’ computational skills.
All science students benefit from some level of coding – We reasoned that structure analysis in PyMOL is a great lever for introducing python skills early as a few lines of code generate useful and stunning results.
Hi all! #introduction
We are a virtual seminar series about all aspects of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). Scientific fields include: #biophysics, #biochemistry, #cellbiology, #bioinformatics, #softmatterphysics etc.
Our new program is just out with seminars on the first Thursday of each week (CET 7PM, EST 1PM) .
IDPseminars are run by @Proteinmagnus and @alexholehouse

It is often said that virtual scientific meetings lack the networking components of in-person conference.
At IDPseminars, we beg to differ. 😎
A story in three parts:
Our uni just specified that using ChatGPT for exams is considered cheating. Not clear how it will be enforced, though.
... and we will be looking for a PhD student and a postdoc to join our lab in the new year.
If you think this should be you then please reach out!
Beer Santa 🍺🎅 (aka. @Carlsbergfondet) came by today to drop a big present in my stocking!
Thank you 🙏 for supporting our project on phosphatases in biomolecular condensates!
-and 👍 you to beer drinkers around the world for supporting research in the most enjoyable way! 😉
I did my first serious test of #WeGPT for a writing project that I thought it would handle well (lecture notes).
Conclusion: It is a little bit like writing together with an eager, but inexperienced (and wordy) PhD student.
It was probably faster than writing from scratch, but the real difference is that it changes the bottleneck from "writing" to "editing/revising"
IDPseminars hasn't made it to Mastodon yet, but we are happy to present @jrkumita and Christine Keating will talk about biomolecular condensates next Thursday (7PM CET).

Did you wish you could replace the water in a cheese with whisky?
If so, you should try the "Drunken Dog" from Arla Unika - It is one of the most spectacular cheeses I have ever tasted.
Other cheeses from the same brand include "Imagine you had a huge cafe latte and then turned it into a cheese".
As a recent evacuee from the birdapp, allow me to introduce myself.
I am a biophysicist that mainly works on intrinsically disordered proteins and their role in biological regulation, disease mechanisms and biotechnology.
