Hello! Well, I’m getting lots of calls from media outlets around the world re #TwitterMigration. Elon’s very upset with me because he thinks I stole his identity on Twitter but my handle always said @kathygriffin. I changed my nickname to Elon musk, and I changed my profile picture to his profile picture. I wasn’t the first or last to do it, but account was the one he saw.
Lots of Musk cult bros are lashing out! Snowflakes! 😂
When it came time to reckon with social media’s failings, nobody ran to the “web3” platforms. Nobody asked “can I get paid per message”? Nobody asked about the blockchain. The community of people who’ve been quietly doing this work for years (decades!) ended up being the ones who welcomed everyone over, as always.
the thing about mastodon disinformation bullshit is that the kind of people who will be chased off by "eugen is secretly Russian" are exactly the people i don't want on here anyway

@reinderd I posted this using the Beta version of Pixelfed for iOS, which I got yesterday. so far, it seems to be working quite well.
An app like Pixelfed needs to be where people's cameras are, which is in their phones.
One somewhat encouraging observation for folks with a genuine sense of community on Twitter: pretty much all the Freenode communities survived. A little bit was lost, and there was a big transition cost, but mostly the communities found new homes and continued.
When Andrew Lee bought (kinda?) Freenode and blew it up last year, I was surprised by how quickly one rich dude could tank a long-standing social network with an established community, and baffled why someone would spend so much money just to burn something down.
That was cute.

It is OK if people deactivate their Twitter accounts and replace them with nothing.
Remember, Twitter itself defined a "Heavy Tweeter" as someone who used the site 6 or 7 days a week and Tweeted 3 or 4 times (!) a week. That is not the profile of someone with a strong need to express themselves on a social media site. And those were less than 10% of overall users!
