Decided to make the move back to Mastodon.social. I love Bitbang.social, but maybe it's a good idea to be on an instance that receives regular software updates. Hopefully, the transfer goes smoothly!

Thanks @gutbomb for the ‘90s OS-palooza. You had me at, “Man, there’s a lot of rebooting.”
Yep, a half a millimeter on the top and sides took care of it. Pops right out.
The replacement battery for this new to me Sony Mavica is *slightly* to big. Not so big that it won’t fit, but big enough it doesn’t want to come out. I’m thinking of sanding it down a bit. Am I crazy?
@soffronoff Don’t know. I haven’t opened it yet, but I guess I should. No reason to keep it sealed up forever.
@pixel And the list ends with “sudden death.”
@fluidlogic Cool. A true utility player with the right adapter.
Though I don’t need it, it was calling to me from the thrift store shelf.
May you be loved as The Cure’s Robert Smith has loved Mary Poole.
@xodium I made a mistake last time and got a regular 14, and soon discovered the camera was lousy for macro shots. The 16 Pro has impressed.
I upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro primarily to get great macro photos. This camera does not disappoint when looking at my pin repair of this tight quad flat pack IC.
I’m growing weary of this Wang.
It will not access the floppy or onboard IDE despite passing all other tests in CheckIt (using an XT-IDE). I replaced a hot resistor, but it tested fine and the replacement is just as hot.
I’ve forgotten what life was like before I started working in this. ☹️
Growing up when I did, this 486DX and the Motorola 68040 are my quintessential processors.
My early Christmas gift infrared camera might have found a problem on this troublesome Wang EXEC motherboard. A tiny resistor is reading well over 130F when the next hottest chip on the board is around 100F. All the other resistors are stone cold.
I have an Apple DuoDisk drive, that came with the Apple IIe, but it doesn't seem to work. I want to connect it together with the Floppy Emu for easier diagnostics, so I decided to build the Apple II DuoDisk Floppy Emu adapter by ThorstenBr:
https://github.com/ThorstenBr/FloppyEmuDuoDiskAdapter
Since PCBWay sent 10 PCBs, I might have gone a bit overboard with the parts order. 😅 Hope I can sell some of these to recuperate some cost or at least give a few away to others who need it.
I learned new skills getting my Retro Chip Tester Pro upgraded to its latest firmware.
@davbucci Well that’s unusual! 😧
Those crimps can be troublesome. Good luck
I decided to treat myself to an early Christmas, and I’ve ordered a Kiaweets KTI-W01 infrared camera to add to my tool bag. Maybe it can help me find troublesome shorts.
Well, nothing went boom and it powered up. Which tells me my pin replacement on the VGA controller worked, and this subtle short likely explains the system’s instability and inability to boot from a floppy.
