I wrote this article a year ago yesterday. As many places around the U.S. experience their first heat wave of the year, here are some of my thoughts about extreme weather, climate change and disability

I would be a liar if I said I didn't use AI at all. One use is whatever AI solution Grammarly has incorporated because my grammar and spelling is horrible (Hyperlexia), the other is Be My Eyes. Here is when I used it to clean up my kitchen due to a leak last week.
Again I have to highlight the amazing sessions and events that @museumofscience have on disability.

I love when I get to discuss accessibility issues in new or underexplored areas because I get to go into my Lucius Fox / R&D mode. Also it gives you room to come up with solutions beyond "well does this meet WCAG x.x..."
I didn't get to share before but the Global Accessibility Awareness Day panel I led at AccessU just happened. I'll let you know when the video becomes available for viewing again.
Thank you to everyone that attended remotely and in person!

Hey all I'm leading a session GAAD at AccessU. The session is free and open to the public and streamed on YouTube. I'm looking for questions about the shifting landscape of digital access and accessibility. This wide open and can be interpreted in many ways, but the hope is to get some questions that cover multiple perspectives.

If AI can do everything for humans then why does it give me an error when I ask it to be socially anxious and depressed for me?

In a world where over half of all internet traffic goes to Big Tech sites, the weird and wonderful web seems to be shrinking. Join @oluOnline at Front End North 2025 to examine how we can take back our webs.

I read the JFK files last night. I don't know how anyone can say there weren't any bombshell revelations. Look at what I found 👀
Today in Disability History
March 12, 1990 - The Capitol Crawl
Protesters marched from the White House to the U.S. Capitol demanded that Congress pass the Americans with Disabilities Act. 60 of those protesters abandoned wheelchairs and other mobility aids to crawl up the 83 Capitol steps.

The European Accessibility Act and the European Union were in the closet improving the accessibility of products and services and I saw one of the products and services and the products and services was implementing EN 301 549.
Them: So much bad stuff is happening!
Us: You need to do something!
Them: Yeah!
Us: What are you going to do?
Them: 🤷🏾♀️
Us: Isn't your job stopping bad stuff?
Them: Maybe a sign that says "Stop bad stuff!" will help?
Us: They have tanks.
Them: I'll add, "NOW" with two more exclamation points.
Please do not develop data tables without accessibility at the forefront because then I have to have 6 am meetings why that isn't cool. Then tell you why even if you don't want to you're gonna have to refactor your code.
If you're a for-profit company/startup conducting research or creating a product and looking for disabled people to test and give feedback then you need to give up some of that profit to pay them. When I see requests for disabled people's time for product research and development rarely is there actual adequate compensation involved. Like a $25 Amazon gift card that can't be exchanged for cash for hours of work isn't cutting it. This is on par with sweat equity or doing it for "the exposure"
I've been trying to discover more about digital accessibility in China the last few years and it hasn't been the easiest thing to research. In 2020 the first national standard for a11y was introduced. There is also an Accessibility Research Association that works with tech companies in China as well. Here is an article about blind and low vision engineers at the ARA helping to improve accessibility in China.
I would keep it in English especially if you don't have the time to translate the entire text to French. If possible you could have a brief disclaimer in French explaining the situation. Above all you want to prevent any miscommunication in the information you provided.
When they tell me it's gonna take 3 months for an accessibility bug fix to be pushed into production.
Does The Void conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA?
The Void is the concept of nothingness and emptiness. The lack of existence. Conformance is the state of consistency. If The Void exists then it can't conform. If The Void doesn't exist then our reality is an illusion.
WCAG 2.1 Level AA is meaningless in the shadow of The Void as it transcends accessibility.
Join me next week when I discuss why Schrödinger's cat fails WCAG SC 3.2.4 Consistent Identification
