@smallsolar @ai6yr I constantly look for a photocell timer that is 12V. I am currently using one designed for pond lighting. It was 32 $USD and still working as installed 11 months ago. I always assumed I would need to use a heavy duty automotive relay for bigger draws.

I haven't posted publicly about this yet (I plan to do a write-up soon) but pix.lgbt and homestead.social are built on a cluster (all on Raspberry Pis) that I built to be fully mobile (literally has a handle on it), with a solar powered battery backup, and dual mobile WANs (fully encrypted over Wireguard VPN) in case we need to flee.

The #Nachtlichter app was designed to assist participants in counting and classifying light sources. We pre-defined street segments (usually from one street corner to the next), and participants went there at night and reported all the different lights they could see.

One question that we had to deal with early on was "how do we categorize all the different light sources that are out there?" In the end, we came up with 18 categories (including "other" as the final category for uncommon things like flagpole lights, glowing park benches, illuminated water fountains, etc.).
