The holidays always put us in the mood to enjoy a game with friends, which recently got us reminiscing about the work we did back in the day to bring the Coding Monkeys’ version of Carcassonne to iOS. From the menus to the gameboard we had a blast creating an immersive feel for the game. Sadly, their version isn’t available any more, but you can see some of the artwork below.

If you’re a dev who wants a fun and immersive feel for your own app or game, email us at design@iconfactory.com!

Carcassonne rendered in real world appearance with materials like wood, stone, and cloth. Game components shown include the main menu, buttons, game pieces, game board, icons, and other game components.

Periodic reminder that the "Direct Message" / "Private Mention" function here is dangerously broken with confusing semantics.

- Anyone mentioned *anywhere* in the body of a PM gets a copy.

- "Disabling" PMs in your profile merely means YOU never see messages sent to you; senders can still send them, with no error indication.

- Nothing is encrypted, which means administrators on any instance that processes a message can see them.

I strongly recommend using something else for private messages.

American journalists seem, overall, somewhat blase about the astonishing journalist death toll in Gaza. Yes, there's been coverage, but very little outrage from a craft that you'd expect to be screaming about this. Politics seems to be part of the reason.

But keep in mind that American journalists have been somewhat blase about the ongoing murders of reporters in Mexico' over the years.

Maybe US journalists can only be counted on to demand protection for themselves.

I think that the real success story here is Japan.

Japan has one of the strongest economic recoveries, but over 5-fold fewer deaths per capita from COVID-19 than the US.

The US chose to sacrifice the vulnerable for the economy.

Japan shows protecting public health can strengthen the economy.

McNamara: “The way in which it was considered appropriate to describe what should happen to me, yes, as a woman, but, as a civil servant, is disappointing to me that the prime minister didn’t pick him up on some of that violent and misogynistic language”
