The new break room at work is finally usable. Which means no more having to carry my very hot food down the stairs from the temporary "break room" (really a weird hallway where the microwave was). Which is a good thing.
However, someone decided that the best place for the microwave was on a weird shelf about a foot off the ground.
It is... not easy to use.
OK, I have some words.
Normally something that gets as loud as this did would have had me reaching for my ear plugs, but for some reason the orchestra doesn't. Not really sure what's up with that.
There were multiple times in the 3rd act when everything just stopped. You could have heard a pin drop. It was amazing.
And there were multiple instances of "applause at the wrong time 'cuz it was just necessary".
Also, I cried multiple times.
Just so good.
(eta actual informative text)
So now that I'm home and have reception for photo uploading, and a keyboard for quick typing... here's the orchestra & choir. No photos of the soloists 'cuz they didn't come out until after the "no more using your devices" warning.
Oh my word.
It was so good. I've seen Turandot before (one of those Met Opera things that broadcasts to local movie theaters), but there was something about it being live that just... I don't have words.
Well, posting a photo from Orchestra Hall continues to be difficult! Oh well.
Tonight is Puccini's Turandot. So orchestra plus a giant choir.
Trying to re-set my brain after directing two hours of severe weather coverage.
Thank you Erik Satie for your amazing piano music. It is beautiful and it is massively helpful in getting my brain to calm down.
Today's shawl.
This is my first Color Affection. I actually followed the pattern for this one. (I posted pics of my modified one maybe a month ago)
It's really fun and I love the colors (loving the colors is kind of the point of the pattern after all), but it has taken me a while to figure out how to wear the thing, since it's so long and skinny. I think I have it down now though!
Rav link: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/spiders-web-shawls
I fiddled with it a bit (because it is extremely rare that I knit something as written) but nothing huge, pretty much just messed with the number of repeats to make it a bit bigger (which also messed with a bit of math on one of the sections, but again, nothing huge modification-wise)
eta: I just looked and I do have notes of what I did up on my Rav project page for it, but I don't have photos up there. I should really do something about that.
@pomegranate_stew @KarenStrickholm Thanx all :D
It would have been repairable if they hadn't been able to get the bead out of the buckle. But it would have been a pain in the butt! I'm really glad I didn't have to do it.
Today's shawl.
It's a huge hexagon, I wear it folded kind of in half. It doesn't show very well in photos but the yarn is really fun. From a distance it reads as brown, but up close it's purples & rusts. (the black yarn which looks like a design choice is really an "I ran out of yarn" but I love the way it looks.
It has many, many beads along the bind off edge. It is indeed the shawl that got stuck in my seat belt buckle last week. Which the car place people were able to rescue.
@pomegranate_stew Oh that is fun sounding! The one I saw was flying overhead so I didn't hear it.
Added two lifers today!
A sandhill crane & an osprey.
I think I may have seen an osprey before but it was so fast I'm not confident enough to count it. But now I've definitely seen one!
@anyGould Yeah, the logic makes sense. And the alarm probably helps to get someone there quickly to turn the water off!
Just got an e-mail from the apartment management people.
Apparently a pipe burst last night and that caused the fire alarm to go off. (pipe was part of the sprinkler system) There wasn't ever any actual fire/smoke.
Glad to know what happened (and that my apartment wasn't affected - other than the alarm).
Whew, it's finally off.
Not sure exactly what happened. But one of the other apartments had their sprinkler trigger. No clue why.
But it made the alarm go off everywhere and it took the fire department ages to turn it off, even after it was very clear there wasn't any danger.
Oh well.
(and now it is definitely time for me to attempt bed)
Someone in the building managed to set off the fire alarm. So that's been going off for the last half an hour. (it's 1am)
@pomegranate_stew @Yuriel @anhdoilc @daiversity can confirm. Lemon ice cream is awesome.
@lrrbot and now that's stuck in my head. Thanks lrrbot
