Installed ModSecurity about a week ago, because it seemed a good idea at the time

I've now discovered that getting it to play well with Mastodon is going to be a very steep hill to climb

I had two short (1-year) "real" jobs. One with the IU computing center, the next with Board of Governors of the Fed. But, quickly went independent/free-lance/consultant. While I depended sometimes on big contracts, I was usually juggling a few different clients, sometimes many.

I learned an important lesson in those days. At the end of each year, I'd fire the client who was the biggest PITA. Did wonders for my peace of mind. Kind of a personal corporate festivus (with real results).

These are seriously the best things I've ever done to my instance:

No more mystery meat links! Next, I'm going to kneecap that part that cuts URLs down to 30 characters and adds an ellipsis.

I really think the first of these ought to be considered upstream; without it, you just get the name when people post a link to someone else's post (aka the Amish Quote Toot), not the text.

All Mastodon servers managed and/or hosted by https://HoneytreeTech.com have had core OS patches and Mastodon updates applied.

If you have enabled 'auto-delete posts' then the Mastodon server handles it based on server loads and some other factors like number of requests in the queue.

This is not a setting and process that we have any control over.

The best option, if you need to delete posts is to do them manually.

We were informed that mstdn.social is currently having some issues with the domain registration, therefore the instance is currently unavailable. The admins are hard at work getting this resolved.
