On this #EarthDay 🌿🌍, let’s talk about the importance of #climateeducation to just transition.
In order to build a system that puts people and the planet first, transition needs to be just and equitable. This means redressing past harms and decolonising knowledge systems, creating inclusive spaces that respect diverse traditions as legitimate sources of knowledge.
Currently, curricula that include climate change tend to focus on scientific approaches to the issue. While this is important, #justtransition cannot be achieved without properly addressing the human impacts and systems of social injustice that created the problem. Holistic, critical climate education is the first step towards #climatejustice, helping young people to question existing inequalities, become climate literate, and develop the tools to participate in just transition.
