Introductory post: I'm an entomologist/evolutionary biologist that's interested in the evolution of Hymenoptera ๐ ๐ , in particular gall inducing/ parasitic wasps. Currently I'm a Marie Curie fellow at the University of Edinburgh, using phylogenomics ๐งฌ , community ecology ๐ป , and morphological taxonomy ๐ฌ to figure out who's who, and who eats who in a tritrophic system consisting of ๐น -> ๐นgall wasps->their natural enemies.

This week the Cornell Lab of Ornithology released fine scale population trends maps for over 500 North American #birds based on #eBird data. These maps are the culmination of several years of research and development by the #eBird Status and Trends team, and all this work was only possible because of the amazing community of eBirders who contributed 43.8 million checklists to the dataset we used to estimate population trends.

Citizen science is a valuable tool for climate science, and many other disciplines.
Currently, volunteers are transcribing detailed weather observations that were written in ship logs on voyages around the world in the 1860s, and turning the hand-written measurements into digital data.
This data will help us better reconstruct past changes in climate. #WeatherRescue
And, anyone can help!
