I continue to be utterly appalled at the ignorance, uneducated opinions and disgusting bigoted comments on the information posts that are giving out details about the terrible wildfires in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. No you utter morons, “they” are not starting fires to burn out “everyone” and move immigrants in, no the magnitude of these fires is not due to “arson”, the cause is climate change. It does not matter at all HOW they start, there are hundreds of little fires started for dozens of difference reasons all the time all over the place. The difference is that in horrific drought conditions coupled with high winds, the fires cannot be quickly put out as is usually the case. The fires grow into the monster that feeds itself and changes the local weather right at the fire and become impossible to stop. This used to happen occasionally in smaller areas. Now it is half the damn country and all around the planet facing these conditions. This is CLIMATE CHANGE. Climate change is caused by burning fossil fuels, not by lizard people, the homeless, immigrants, leftists or any other scapegoat spouted about. Now if y'all had listened to us decades ago when we were telling you that developing other ways of making energy might be a damn good idea, we might be pumping a fraction of the greenhouse gases into the atmosphere right now instead of this absolutely hellscape we have.
The absolutely BEST prep you can do is not let your family, friends or neighbours get away with saying this crap and spreading this nonsense. Tell people what is happening and why. I don't know if it's possible to stop this insanity now but if there is going to be a future on this planet, we have to encourage and support the engineers, the scientists, the inventors to keep finding and improving on better and cleaner sources of power. Meanwhile the rest of us need to use less energy, any way and every way we can.

270) Newbootsbots. Break in your new boots.

Two seemingly ovoid robots, each sitting in one of a pair of Doc Marten boots. They have jointed arms and propellers on their tops. One is holding the edge of its boot as it lands on the ground, while the other's boot is just lifting up into the air and it has its arms up and a joyous expression on its face with its eyes closed. Text in the lower left reads, "suggested by @rosewind.bsky.social".

@owlsintowels The saw-whet is what made me love owls as a small person. "Pocket Owls?!?" (Never place owls in your pockets unless there is some special wildlife expert way to do this and you are an expert. I wouldn't know. I'm not.)

Olaf the owl's facial disc is exactly that: a disc of feathers in a near perfect circle, bursting from a fluffy white towel with a sparse blue stripe pattern. No other background details are visible—this is pure owl and towel.

He has golden eyes and looks square at the camera, one eye ever so slightly more open the other. He makes a handsome model.

I grew up with parents that were hoarders. We moved a lot when I was a kid, and it would astound me that they would haul, what seemed like trash to me, from place to place. It's taken me a long time to realize that this wasn't something they did to me, that mentally healthy people don't do this. They had built this identity around their pain, and didn't know how to heal. I'm still working on this myself, trying to turn anger into compassion, and see depression for what it was. This isn't to let my parents off the hook for the ways in which they failed me. Forgiveness and understanding is something I have to do for myself. If you can't forgive other people, you probably won't have compassion for yourself either. I haven't got there 100%, I probably never will, because this is a journey where every day I have to ask if what I'm holding onto is serving me. We probably all hoard something in the end, maybe it's not physical things, but it's there nonetheless. I hope you all find the healing you need and deserve in life. I love you all, have a great day.

@FinalGirl I was 4 the first time I tried to explain to my mom that I wasn't a boy Or a girl. I was 11 when I told my cousin I still felt that way. By the time I got into my 30s I was trying So Hard to be a girl I thought I was going to vibrate apart from the tension. It still took me til I was 40 to use the word "trans" for myself and not immediately qualify it. I am so glad I got the chance, given how afraid I was of the ambiguity for so long. Everything since has been worth it.

“The main reason why I absolutely hate that ‘trans people always knew’ narrative is that it expects trans kids—no, preschoolers—to somehow independently formulate an entirely different theory of gender to account for their own feelings, rejecting the version given to them by adults. To me, that seems like an unreasonable and unfair ask. That’s too much to put on a kid who can’t even reliably get themselves to the potty on time.”

@RickiTarr When I was in college, my apartment-mate turned out to be a hoarder. The thing is, she wasn't obtrusive. When I asked her to keep her things mostly to her room, she was able and more than willing to do so. She never wanted to be visible for this. I had a lot of my own problems and I used to feel so hard for her that she couldn't mask as easily as I sometimes could. The privilege of a disability that doesn't "bother" others as much is not insignificant, though it is unjust.

@alexhaist It sounds like we started out in similar places. I used to be compulsively helpful to my detriment at times, and it took a while to find the right balance. Now, when I can help I love it, because that is part of who I am, but when I can't help, I'm a lot less down on myself. Acceptance, I guess.

@alexhaist Everyday joys - the cats who agree to live with me, my partners, and the trees outside my front door.

Also, tbh, the moments I'm able to contribute. Access is important for lots of reasons, but also because when we're free to move through the world, we get to participate in society and experience the satisfaction of being part of that larger cycle of support.

I'm not saying my life has to be service to be valid; I'm saying I appreciate the rare occasions I have the option.

@gwynnion I'm Autie and notoriously sincere, (not pretending I'm perfect - just that I almost never say something I don't mean without a Huge disclaimer because I am also awkward entirely). Mastodon is awesome for me in lots of ways, but I can count on... several hands, the number of times I've responded seriously to someone who's had to explain they were joking. It would be cool if some were nicer about that, but heck, can't win em all.

@DrSafariBoob AA here. (TW: SH/CSA) I regulated with moderate pain for ~40 years, (CA childhood), as well as by inducing extreme hunger-pangs. The internal consistency of the discomfort helped me compensate for inconsistencies in my external life. That said, I'm clearly also just a very body-sense-orientied person, as I was also a dancer and martial artist. I still do many breathing exercises, as much for the feeling of stretching and pressure on deep breaths, as other benefit. TY for this post!

The senses.

My issues with alexithymia are related to interoception - my ability to feel and relate to my insides.

The usual senses we think of are:
- sight
- smell
- touch
- taste
- hearing

Folk attribute sensory seeking/sensory overload to these.

There are more. Let's go through them.

Ignored Sense 1:

Proprioception.

Proprioception is your sense of body in space. If you were stimming with this you might do things like:

- gymnastics & dance
- being in water
- sport

Sensory seeking behaviour is autistic.

Ignored Sense 2:

Vestibular.

Vestibular sense is related to balance.

The examples are very similar to proprioception but the function is about balance in space rather than position. Other examples could be:

- skating
- spinning
- toe walking
- bikes

Ignored Sense 3:

Thermoception.

This is about sensing and regulating temperature. I can only speak to personal experience but spend energy ensuring my temperature is staying in my comfort zone. This means lots of thought around plans and clothing choices (because dysregulated temperature is dysregulated me).

It makes getting sweaty very tricky.

Ignored Sense 4:

Nociception.

Nociception is the perception of pain. This part might be confronting to read.

Some of us seek pain actively. MANY of us do it subconsciously as a stim. The very traumatised amongst us use it to regulate and it works. This is confronting.

Ignored Sense 5:

Interoception.

I mentioned this one already, it's feeling your insides. How might you manipulate or engage this?

- hunger
- thirst
- stim/binge eating/restriction
- fear/horror
- conflict

I hope this helps!

My objective here is to show the sensory world of humans is expansive and that the scope of autism and its influence in our society feels misunderstood to me 💕✨

okay i'll admit i'm not used to Czech weather, but surely a thunderstorm with an amount of rain that would make the biblical Noah worry a bit followed by a clear blue sky is not something that normally happens, right?

@adelinej AA here, as well. To be fair, my partner was told only that he had "a touch of Aspergers", and was then discouraged from exploring more. He went for Years knowing all the 'wrong' terminology, while still being definitely Autistic. He's been really grateful to be educated patiently since then. We all do start somewhere and even that start's rarely in the same place.

Sweden criminalises payment for sexual services online.

In Sweden, it will be illegal to pay for sexual acts on the internet from the summer. Parliament has extended an existing law and made payment for remote sexual acts a criminal offence.

This affects online platforms such as OnlyFans.
