There are three kinds of gun owners

1: People who have them, but you’d never know unless you asked and they told you
2: Hunters, who keep their guns secured and their ammunition separate
3: MLM psychopaths. Shit, it’s been three minutes, have I made this about guns yet? Guns are freedom!

@georgetakei this makes sense, given what she fed her dog

A judge has forced Elon Musk to disclose who helped him buy Twitter.

And to no one's surprise: Two rich Russians from Putin's inner circle were part of the deal. Their names are Petr Aven and Vadim Moshkovich, and allegedly they are related to companies on the list.

And clearly, EU parliamentarian Guy Verhofstadt is not having it.

fortune.com/2024/08/22/elon-mu

Obviously, indirect Russian relations in itself is not proof of Russian influence.

I will do some more digging.

Post from Guy Verhofstadt:

"Incredible... Putin's henchmen helped Musk to acquire Twitter.

That explains a lot: the position of Musk on Crimea... the refusal at some point to let Ukraine use Starlink... the support for Trump...

Time for the US to wake up !"

@rodhilton @jonquass Good point. Relying on poll data hasn’t harmed Democrats so far in the last eight years. It’s why Nate Silver is still seen as a wunderkind to this day.

2024-07-02

@rodhilton @jonquass bit of a skewed source there. I wonder why “data for progress” is running a “why aren’t you voting for Biden” poll. I see that they asked about “incompetence” too. I’m sure that didn’t skew results at all. Can’t argue with that mighty 600-person sample size though.

You seem to have dodged my question about whether shitting on a candidate with hundreds of positive accomplishments has ever worked in the past.

2024-07-02

@rodhilton @jonquass Oh. I didn’t realize you spoke for swing voters.

Has there ever been an instance in American history where the strategy of switching candidates after avoiding primary season had a favorable outcome for the party?

2024-07-02

@rodhilton @jonquass I believe it would be harmful to effectively tell swing voters “in spite of his past and ongoing accomplishments, we have no confidence in our candidate, and we would like to replace him with someone less experienced at the last minute.”

There are plenty of Democrats I *like* more than Biden. Some of them have better policy stances. I don’t know of any who would be able to work more effectively.

2024-07-02

@rodhilton @jonquass That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that while I’d vote for any Democrat, it’s at best harmful to push for him to be replaced, particularly at this point, and I’m saying that even if we could without backlash, we would end up with poorer leadership than what we have now.

2024-07-02

@jonquass @rodhilton *and* his accomplishments continue to speak for themselves. Good luck finding any Democrat who would do as well as Biden has.

2024-07-02

@rodhilton I’ll vote for any Democrat over any Republican.

But it’s short-sighted to dismiss all of the good Biden has done as president because he had a bad debate night.

Let me pose the question to you. Can you name a single Democrat who could accomplish even half of what Biden has in the face of a hostile legislative branch? Even Obama’s accomplishments pale in comparison. As it turns out, experience is much more important than charisma.

2024-07-02

If Biden does the right thing, I’ll condemn him for it, even as I’m grateful.

Here’s my simple question no one seems to want to answer: How is anyone celebrating four hostages for 274 killed Palestinians, when the deal on the table was ALL hostages for zero killed?

In a misguided effort to be "unbiased," most news media have stopped calling Trump's Big Lie about the 2020 election what it is. Instead they're using terms like "false statements" or "claims without evidence."

Memo to the media: Calling out lies isn't "biased." It's your job.

Maybe someday, Americans will be more tired of lax gun laws than they are of mass shootings.

Trump’s tax giveaway added $2 trillion+ to the deficit.
Making them permanent would cost $3 trillion.
More than 60% of the benefits would go to the richest 20%.
He’s now eyeing a second round of corporate tax cuts.
Does that sound like a champion of the working class to you?
