Why are we reading, if not in hope of beauty laid bare, life heightened and its deepest mystery probed? – Annie Dillard
Oh I've been away from here for so long. Phone broke, had to use old crappy phone that wouldn't install anything... but I'm back! Are people still here?? 😅
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage. - Anaïs Nin
@golgaloth Ooo that truly sounds so cool!!
@golgaloth slow can be good too... there's some magic is slow! What's it about?
I have been away from here for long- how terrible! What's been happening in the #writerdon lately?

Most artists I know are not neuro-typical (me too). Some have OCD, social phobias, PTSD, physical challenges & more. ART is the balm that soothes us, but it's more than that. And we need support! If we use more hashtags (or certain ones), please understand we just want to be SEEN. If we post a link, know we hope you might COLLECT so we can survive. If our posts look formulaic consider it may be OCD and NOT spam. #Kindnessmatters

@wordswithnima well I'm pleased that the onions haven't been all genetically modified which was my speculation haha but I'm sorry you've had to endure the watery sting for so long 😩 those cruel and sadistic vegetables deserve to be eaten.
@WriterLP Slow. I take my time and feel no pressure to get to the end in a hurry. My goal, usually, is to learn from my reading about how to write prose, rather than finishing the book. I read a few at a time, too. Sometimes to myself, sometimes out loud.
@oguzhanaydin do you feel you enjoy the reading more when you do slow down or when you're reading quickly?
@inkynibs slow reading makes reading a real pleasure for me. Fast reading feels like I'm making it about outcomes haha
@Apocryphiliac yes content does matter actually. One of the books I read fast was a "lighter" sort of fiction and I didn't feel I needed to digest or ponder anything so I guess that's why I flew through it but I too usually read things that I need to take time with. I can also retain great detail if I read slow enough but if I read fast I lose so much- it's like my brain marks importance by how long I sit with it haha
@nlowell you don't enjoy reading fast? I kind of force myself to slow down if I'm rushing through so I can sit with the details longer. I think our binge watching culture has made me read faster but I consciously have to slow myself down because in the end I feel more apart of the world I'm reading and I find more magic that way.
I read 2 books during the first 5 days of January and now I'm back to taking several weeks to finish a book. I don't know what happened during Jan 1st and 5th but it gave me a taste of what those hardcore "reading goal" people must do. Weirdly I don't feel I retained as much from those first 2 books... they feel less solid in my head. I think I need that slow reading to digest my books. Are you a fast or slow reader?

Anyone ever feel like America needs to be switched off then on again?
@AuthorMarkMiller have been doing this the past couple nights and it's a simple but powerful joy haha
