Clans of the Cherokee with JP Johnson
This is a really great video to help understand some major societal differences between North American Native/Indigenous people and European settlers. Most Native/Indigenous Nations have a version of the clan system. Cherokee and Mvskoke are virtually identical for instance. We were neighbors in the ancestral lands and in Indian Territory. We shared much, intermarried, etc., likewise with other nearby Native peoples.
This is essential education for allies.
If you don’t understand clans and the matrilineal societies of North American Native/Indigenous people, you’re missing a great deal. The original colonizers resisted understanding and respecting the uniqueness of Native/Indigenous society compared to European society.
It’s well worth the hour and fifteen minutes. Def one of those missing pieces of substandard US/CA educations. I highly advise viewing this.
