@GossiTheDog for those who may not know how to read this, the tool reports how many trackers are being foisted on you by each platform, and this is what it found:
* Mastodon (cyberplace.social): 0
* Twitter: 13
* Facebook: 26
* LinkedIn: 114
With Twitter's collapse, funders should start helping build up federated discourse: supporting development of better security, of moderation aids, of proposals for affordances welcoming to Black Twitter and other communities. Stop thinking top down. Start thinking emergent.
Stop thinking about how to help newspapers. Start thinking about how to help communities and culture speaking for themselves. This is a place to start.
Today for #BlackFriday it is my intention to boost only #BlackJoy and #BlackMastodon folks sharing their experiences. I encourage other white folks to do the same.
Seriously loving how #BlackMastodon is hijacking this capitalist bullshit day #BlackFriday and turn it into something useful: more visability for Black people! Onwards!!
Have heard from an Iranian friend that the lion flag is actually being used by protestors as an alternative to the Islamic Republic flag (flag changed in 1980 after revolution, purge of leftists, & consolidation of Islamic Republic). So you have two parties, both at the World Cup, using it. I hope to hear from historians of Iran on the lion symbol's origins because I've always pretty strongly associated it with the monarchy

BTW, the sun is always a female in Persian literature and folklore. I personally love this combination of an active, possibly ready to fight male lion with a supportive bright loving female sun as the symbol of my country! I think it's cute. The sword apparently was added after Islam (doesn't surprise me) and wasn't very original.
@AlisonW I found this to be helpful. It breaks down fact vs fiction. The underlying issues of class and race run through.

@AlisonW it’s much more insidious now. I have a friend who moved there a few years ago who is Black and they tell me they’ve had a lot of negative experiences.
@AlisonW wow, what did you learn about the Fayeds? What spin do you mean specifically?
Our #introduction to #bookstodon!

& many, many more.
We're based in Edinburgh and London, and next year we'll be 50. Hello!
@AlisonW a friend shared this quote from Harry: “why do you think my mother was harassed? Because she started to date someone that was brown- look where that ended up? What do you think they’ll do to Meghan? They’re not going to stop until she dies.”
@AlisonW and then Harry and Meghan 🤯
@AlisonW yes, it’s a dramatic expiration of events designed to entertain. But the facts are there. What Dodi’s father did, how he bought his way into those circles, hired the former king’s valet, bought Harrods. How Diana dated his son & how they died. That she was put at arms length from the royal family, and had much less security, when she died. Those are facts. The Fayed family history I was not aware of at all
The last scene of episode three really made me reflect on SO MUCH. Class, race
If you haven’t watched #TheCrownSeason5 I really recommend it. It’s a lot more than I was expecting. It opened my eyes to a lot of deeply rooted issues in British culture and it has a lot of history I didn’t know or really think about. And I was in my 20s during this period. It’s a very Frank look at how class and race collided with Diana’s dissatisfaction with her royal life. And ultimately lead to her death 🤯 #thecrown
I’m #thankful for all of the volunteers running all of the #Mastodon instances out there who are trying to build safe, positive, productive communities. Who willingly give of their own time in addition to their family, work, and other obligations. Who put people before profit. Who believe that when we build bridges and connect with one another, we can accomplish anything together.
