@larryfeltonj thanks.
For now, I've used mast.host which does most of the work. But it's expensive and I can't cover it forever.

@meptrsn Maybe I'll do just that. Thanks.
🧵Again, I've assigned Alice Marwick's work to students and, as ever, it's a great tool for thinking with. This time I'm reading it alongside Heather Haveman's historical work on nineteenth-century magazines, which makes for an interesting comparison. On the historical front…
@mike I just got journa.host myself.
Though I'm very happy to cede this ground and let someone else manage it. Or start their own.
@larryfeltonj No deep need for an instance. A hashtag is definitely better, I'd think.
But an instance might just make it easier for newbies to have a central place and to have intrajournalism conversations.
@proactivebusybody I did! That's why I felt safe saying it.
@jeffjarvis @mmasnick @garius This should work https://mastodon.social/@garius/109279394369832433
@proactivebusybody tell me you have adhd without... (I did the same thing)
@Gargron Where is the best place to contribute to your work?
please add a bio before following. thank you. 🖤
@carrideen Yes. That's the issue. Is it just my own particular views or do we set up a board of some sort.
Man, it turns out... it's hard to figure this stuff out.
@Quatrus I'll be at ASOR and will tell everyone!
I saw on twitter that Megan Lewis was thinking about it.
@markigra Thanks. That sounds right.
@ecbrenner Oh definitely!
@billbarol Great. Still figuring out what it would be. But that would be great to have some help.
@ScottMStedman I'd love to discuss. I'll DM.
@inquiline I'd love to not be emperor and to have some others.
I'd also like to foster talk between media scholars and practitioners. There's too little of that.
It seems like a tension between being too narrow and too broad.
Dear #histodon and #archaeology I am looking for Assyriologists and other folks who study the ancient Near East on here.
Are there many? Any? Do they have their own #?
I am toying with creating an instance, specifically, for journalists. Obv. they can use federated stream but it might be a way to give an easy landing pad for folks.
I'd welcome any advice (or offers of help!!!!) for what to do and not do in setting up such a thing.
Specifically: how would I decide how to approve folks?
How narrowly or not should I define "journalist"?
The many things I'm not thinking about?
4. Blame "activists" for any downsides.
