Well… it was fun. Irene Tu opened with a lot of good laughs and Janeane’s set was very scattershot but it was a good time and the theater is neat. It’s set up like an outdoor plaza with old Spanish style facades on either wall and a fake sky ceiling with little speck star lights. Not what I pictured, but a cute place I’d go back to for the right kind of show.

@Tinrocket I love this idea, I could definitely use something like this. Looking forward to seeing how it goes!

The biggest benefit to being solo is that I can snag pretty awesome last-minute seats for a lot of shows. Tonight, on a whim, I’m going to see Janeane Garofalo at the newly reopened Plaza Theatre in downtown Palm Springs. Front row mezzanine, should be a good opportunity to check out the space and get to enjoy the show!

I drove to Anaheim today and checked out #NAMM for the first time ever. It was huge and very loud but I had a good time wandering around and finally meeting people in person that I’ve known and worked with for over a decade.

@DejGuy Thanks, I did it and felt good about being as polite as I could be while still being clear and direct. I hope it gets easier!

I had some plumbing work done at my house yesterday and it’s really hard for me to say “this isn’t right, it’s functional but different than what I was sold and it causes a problem” without feeling like a total jerk. Evidently I was not taught how to stand up for myself well enough, even though I have a decent amount of self-confidence and self-determination.

@jpsim I’d almost forgotten what a well-written, well-delivered speech could sound like after so many years of social media-delivered half thoughts wrapped in garbage and insults.

@gairdeachas I think so, I recall that one last year got revised downward to a 5.2 or so and it was further away. I’m curious to see where this one lands but it definitely felt like it had more oomph.

I was complimented today for being easy to work with and polite, and they almost described it as a personality trait which, thank you, but also… being polite is how I choose to act. It’s not inherent.

They also said I was blessed for my success which again, thank you, but also it’s more than dumb luck. I work for it actively and repeatedly.

The things you appreciate in other people are not usually immutable characteristics. They take effort and can be emulated.
