I think there's some motto to be made here, in the vein of "Fairy tales tell us that dragons can be killed," but infinitely more depressing. Superhero comics tell us you can never fight the real bad guys, since there's always next month's stories to write?

Why doesn't the Punisher kill the Kingpin? Apparently that question only came up in the comics once, in 1989. They decided Wilson was "untouchable," since getting rid of him would create too much chaos and death in the power vacuum. Poor old Frank had to bow his head and let organized crime rule New York City. I can imagine they carefully avoid ever mentioning these two characters in the same comic because, you know, the good guys can "never win" in this case. The Marvel Universe sucks.

Finished a puzzle I got for my birthday from cousin M. It has about 60 pieces and took four days. So many squiggly shapes I got terrified of placing one wrong cause it would probably be impossible to unlock, yet now I find it impossible to move it to a sheet of paper without breaking it up. The things we do for love.

I always like dark mode on websites, but the camera on my bank's two factor authenticator sure don't. Just about impossible for it to read the bright code on the screen anymore due to contrast. And to change the color scheme, you've to log in first. Brilliant.

But really really, Erivo's face acting carries at least 80% of the show. I already forgot most of the songs (did the songwriters just give up after Defying Gravity?) but all of those closeups on her green expressions haunt me. How does one face do so much?
(Also green biceps.)

Okay Ariana is quite good too, really.
And I like how they fast forward through the plot of Wizard in a way where you can tell it's not to not take focus from the main characters or even to move the story forward but just because everyone already knows that one.
Won't soon forget the moment where it dawned on me Nessa would become the wicked witch of the East and die, and it became really sad. (Maybe it was pretty obvious from the start if you were trying to connect the dots, but.)

Highlights of Wicked: For Good
*Cynthia Erivo's face
*Cynthia Erivo's giant, earnest, vulnerable eyes
*Cynthia Erivo's crooked smile, telling the whole story of Elphaba "trying" to act the wicked witch with totally insincere resignation and cynicism
*Cynthia Erivo's arms

Controversial opinion: I prefer i the 0 with a line through it to differentiate it from O better than O with a line through it to differentiate it from 0

@SKleefeld It's what I've been saying. Trump's presidency is about as conclusive for the US as the Chernobyl disaster was for Soviet, to make an obvious comparison. A country will remain, I'm sure, but one with limited influence or relevance to the international community beyond the entertainment business, and limited prospects for citizens without the means to leave.

You can refuse to provide official ID or biometric data for social media accounts requiring age verification.

Actually, I bet if everyone did refuse, and let their account dormant for a couple of weeks, you would suddenly see American Big Tech transforming into the fiercest defender of your privacy rights, using their powerful network of lobbyists to fight these invasive government regulations.

They need you more than you need them.
Force them to work for your rights.
Do not comply.

It's been about 32 years since the day I got tasked to destroy our bakelite rotary phone cause we modernized. In hindsight it probably bothered my mom to be too poor to get rid of it for so long. Something something the future is unevenly distributed.

@cafechatnoir I feel people could make their own offerings to burn instead of breaking other people's stuff and calling it tradition.

Think I've talked about this before, but I like the growing trend of of image descriptions being expected. It's good accessibility, obviously, but also I like having to think about what I'm saying with a picture I'm posting and verbalize what the picture is showing. And though the difficulty is judging what's the important parts to communicate, it's nice when you can do it well.
Plus, I get comic pages done cause I'm less worried that my drawing works when I can just say what I want it to do.

Poll only for #Blind/LowVision users who rely on #AltText. Is AltText generated with an LLM actually “better than nothing” as some argue? Please comment if you’re Blind or Low Vision, and please boost to get a good sample.

If I had a nickel for every time I told some particularly obnoxious, can't shut up Internet person arguing how conservatives aren't so bad to make a twitter account and act like a trans woman to learn what they're like to their victims and then never heard a word from them again, I'd have two nickels

I was today years old when I realized "rake" means "disreputable man" just like "hoe" means, well. Apparently these totally unconnected etymologies collided in the garden shed.

Retoot if you want an ivy league degree, a cigar, a vote, pants, to move the world, write, dance sing, act, paint, sculpt, fence, row, ride, swim, hunt, shoot, fish, love all men, lead the Commons, keep a restaurant and a zoological garden, to deluge Europe and Asia with blood shed for your intoxicating beauty; if you're primeval, savage, unlicensed, unfathomable, inexpressible, irrepressible, overpowering, crude, mordant, pugnacious, polyandrous, sensual, fiery, chaste, modest or misunderstood.

More or less the above rant, except framed as a conversation with several women "shrieking" it as demands of a condescending narrator.

"We dig for the truth behind the news headlines." Would you expect this message to be advertising for, uh, the court system? Or that the court system needs advertising? I sure didn't.
