It’s been 10 years since Approach first launched as the 5 Pin Bowling Companion! Here’s a blog post going over some of the changes it’s been through:

Approach, the 5 Pin Bowling Companion, has officially launched for iOS! A lot of work went into getting this out the door, and if you’re a Canadian interested in 5 pin bowling at all, I’d love your feedback.

Wrapping up work on the iOS app before the first TestFlight is launched, and cleaning up the repo/icon in my downtime ☺️

A screenshot of the GitHub repository.

The app icon and title headline the page, with the tagline “the 5 Pin Bowling Companion for iOS and Android”

Beneath, badges state the CI status, passing, the latest release, 3.2.0, and the mastodon URL.

Lastly, the app description at the bottom of the page: “Approach is the 5 Pin Bowling Companion, built for Android and iOS with native platform technologies, Compose and SwiftUI. Approach allows users to track multiple bowlers and leagues, providing in-depth statistics on their game. Find areas for improvement and become better attuned to your own bowling style.”

Progress has been moving steadily the past few months. The scorekeeping functionality is in working order, and UX is almost complete there. This week’s focus is on all the statistics the app provides, and first generating them to display in a list, then later charting them.

Screenshot of Approach, in an iPhone 14 frame. 5 bowling pins in a row, from left to right. Below, the current score of the game, 45. A sheet peeks out at the bottom of the frame with the name of the bowler, Joseph, and the league, Majors.
