SCOOP: YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy. "YouTube quietly removing ‘gender identity and expression’ from its list of protected groups is a major radical shift away from best practices in the field of trust and safety." usermag.co/p/youtube-removes-g

Indoor Kid now has a lowercase!

These marvelous minuscules were developed in collaboration with comics writer/editor/publisher Ellis Bojar.

They are part of an expansive designspace in the comic book lettering style, with variable axes for weight, width, and slant, plus a special emphasis axis that enlarges letterforms from their vertical center without affecting the stroke weight.

This week, I saw a post about ChatGPT image generation, saying “art is accessible now.” I’ve been irritated by the stupidity, ever since.

Calling AI image generation “art” is like saying that browsing YouTube is “cinematography” or copy-pasting from a blog post is “writing.”

No, actually, you’re just consuming work made by someone else.

Art is about struggle, learning, journeying, and making something new, yourself.

@freakboy3742 I often compulsively copy my GitHub comments as I’m writing them, just in case. Or, I post them early and then edit. It’s the worst to accidentally close out of a tab before posting. I could also definitely believe that text disappearing in an inactive tab.

> If you do not recognize that mass destruction of fundamental concepts of democracy and the US Constitution happening right now, you are either willfully ignorant or just plain stupid. I can’t put it any clearer than that.

Why Reagan was bad for America,* in one chart.

* He was bad for America in lots of ways, but this is a good indicator. He was also horrible for much of the rest of the world, too. geekdom.social/@FantasticalEco

“These cuts are just the most recent in a series of a sledgehammer approach to the critical US teams supporting IT infrastructure. […] We’re wrestling with what it will mean for ourselves and our families, as well as the impact on our partners and the American people.

A fairly common beginner question in type design is:

“How can I make a font from letters I drew in Illustrator?”

I wrote some notes on how to do so, going from Illustrator to Glyphs 3:

My workaround is to set the default opsz to the maximum. This is counter to legibility (and fails in a related Font Bakery check), as the fallback should probably be the most legible at small scales. But, it seems to work around the Safari bug if the font has the max opsz as default.
