Booted the 3DO tonight to make sure it's still working. Why did I bother... This thing is built like a TANK. Disc tray opens and closes smoothly, reads CD-Rs like a champ, built-in fan works like new.
It's over engineered to such a degree that it will probably outlast all of our other consoles.

This game is just timeless. Perfectly tuned gameplay. Stunning art and sound design. Arenas that get my heart rate up in a way few games can.
It's obvious by now that I will be forever returning to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. They're THAT good.
Incidentally, I did finally get past that Slayer Gate in Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1. Took me **dozens** of tries over roughly two days! The rest of it was manageable, and TAG2 was even easier. It's nice to know that I finally played through all the single-player content in Doom Eternal.

Two observations: TDA seems to be a pretty on-the-nose homage to the OG Doom - with a little bit of OG Quake thrown in. Also, if you think it will run fine on a Series S, think again. Frame rate is good but the game is very, very blurry; it mostly resolves to 720p. I'm not sure if a patch can improve things somewhat, but I hope it does. So for now, I'll stick to the Series X.
There's a challenge map in Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part I that absolutely kicked my ass last night. It starts with two Arch-viles and just goes down from there :)
As much as Doom Eternal can be infuriating from time to time, I think I actually prefer it to The Dark Ages. I enjoy the fluid movement and the gory executions. It's likely that The Dark Ages will grow on me, though.
Here's an old game tester's tip: if the game wants you to go right, go left. In short, go the opposite direction of whatever the game indicates via level design or objective marker.
