Just finished a last minute reed run. Both of my oboe students just broke their last reeds on concert week. If I didn't know better I would assume a conspiracy. 😄 Hope they appreciate these brand new Sherbets. #music #BandDirector #oboe

@april Thank you! I'm very pleased with how it worked out.

Finally had time to install the new rack. :) My pannier is now fully supported. Now I'm just waiting for the other pannier. #BikeTooter

A gravel bike supported by a repair stand. There is a canvas pannier mounted on the stand.

@ascentale @Osteopenia_Powers @bikenite A6 I have a hard time with this. I don't want to get run over, but I also don't want to change clothes when I get to work. My compromise was these stickers: reflective.berlin/en I put them on a couple of jackets and they simultaneously look cool and are ridiculously reflective. Coupled with the lights and reflectors on my bike I think I'm okay. #bikenite

@ascentale @daihard @bikenite A5 For me the ebike is a different kind of fun. My acoustic bike is my daily ride and I like the feeling of accomplishment when I get somewhere and the endorphins that come with it. The ebike is fun because I get to whiz around everywhere regardless of the terrain and come very close to yelling "Wheeee!" 12 year old me would approve. #bikenite

@ascentale @cpm @bikenite A2 I have clones of those very gloves. They have a seam in an inconvenient place so I'm in the market for another pair. I'm trying to wear gloves on all my rides for crash protection. I need my hands to make a living and the idea of scratching them up scares me. #bikenite

@ascentale @bikenite A1: I'm posting from Los Angeles CA USA where it is too darn hot.

Official cycle to work days and the like don't really impact me much. We're car-light so I kinda have to take my bike to work. It does get a free ride on the train though which is pretty sweet. I suppose if it gets people thinking about trying cycling it's a good thing.

@ai6yr @alienghic Can confirm. It is sprinkling in LA.

@moz @trouble @ascentale @bikenite Careful, if you give me more ideas, I'll get myself in trouble. 😂

2025-05-03

@trouble @NNN @ascentale @bikenite That looks super useful!

2025-05-03

@trouble @moz @ascentale @bikenite I have wielded a soldering iron many a time, but my living situation is lacking in workspace. I would love to build a custom rack some day.

2025-05-03

@oheso @ascentale @bikenite Good to know about the dynamo light. I'm looking into that long term because I want to try a little bit of bike packing.

2025-05-03

@enobacon @ordinoides @ascentale 😂, yep I lost a rack like that in college once.

2025-05-03

@SRLevine @ascentale @bikenite Oof yeah you weren't kidding there. It's still within my budget because I use it everyday so I'm ready to splurge a little

2025-05-03

@sam @ascentale @bikenite Lol, sounds like my mechanic's attitude towards steel frames. I've seen the man use a hammer more than once.

2025-05-03

@NNN @ascentale @bikenite Yeah that pretty much sums up what I was looking for.

2025-05-03

@glent @ascentale @bikenite Good to know, thanks!

Last Q from @atrombone:

Q8. Does anyone have good rack (for carrying things) recommendations? I recently sold my old bike, bought a new one, and my LBS only had one rack to choose from. The arms are at different angles and now the panniers bump into the spokes. I'm looking for a rack that keeps them out of the spokes and allows me to put them a little further back to avoid heel strikes with my big feet.

@ascentale @bikenite A1 I'm posting from Los Angeles CA USA. I usually ride my commute by myself, but every now and again I persuade my wife to bike to the coffee shop with me. #bikenite

@ascentale Does anyone have any good rack recommendations? I recently sold my old bike and bought a new bike and my LBS only had one kind of rack to choose from. The arms that hold it up are at different angles so now the panniers bump into the spokes. I'm looking for a rack that keeps them out of the spokes and gives me the option to put the bags a little further back to avoid heel strikes with my big feet. #bikenitepq
