I like command line and TUI (terminal user interface) applications. I dislike asymmetry, flickering text, flashing screens, blinking cursors, high input latency, and user-hostile software.

I like music from #CarbonBasedLifeforms, #AkiraYamaoka, and #KeiichiOkabe (NieR).

If you're a human being, have a short bio, and some verified links on your profile, you can send me a follow request and I'll most likely approve it.

MadS (2024) is a great natural take on the zombie apocalypse genre and a great horror movie with brilliant acting.

Look like @torvalds might remove #bcachefs from the #Linux with version 6.17:

lore.kernel.org/all/CAHk-=wi+k

'"I have pulled this, but also as per that discussion, I think we'll be parting ways in the 6.17 merge window."'

Backstory that triggered this can be found here:

lore.kernel.org/all/CAHk-=wi2a

To quote from there:

'"You seem to have forgotten what the point of the merge window was again.

We don't start adding new features just because you found other bugs.

[โ€ฆ]

Make the -rc fixes be pure fixes.

@trashheap @TheOneDoc Most of the packages I need or want to use are already in the repos (except some Haskell packages like shellcheck and pandoc). I end up packaging other stuff I need that isn't in the repos. cbuild is nice to use.

@trashheap @TheOneDoc GNOME is the "flagship" DE in Chimera's repositories but it also has KDE, XFCE, and Wayland compositors like Sway and Niri.

There's absolutely zero reason for me to buy another Pixel smartphone if it doesn't support #GrapheneOS.

grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/

Oh well, I hope I don't have to replace my Pixel 9 anytime soon but when I do, I'm not sure which shitty alternative I'd pick. ๐Ÿ˜‘

I got myself a Logitech MX Vertical mouse.

After using a split ergonomic keyboard, I always felt that using a vertical mouse would make more sense but I never got one until now. The handshake position of the palm feels extremely pleasant and natural. I'm not going to win any FPS games with this but it does feel significantly more comfortable than the Razer Deathadder mouse I was using.

Unfortunately, I'm not confident that the mouse wheel will survive after an year or two and I'm expecting double click issues in this mouse as well because Logitech sells crap.

I cannot overstate how much I hate the short character limits on most instances here. It does not make people post short, concise messages (as if brevity is even a thing Iโ€™d want to optimise for) it makes people post essays as sequences of 47 toots. Which then all appear in my timeline. In reverse order.

@grawity A website with only a dark mode with a remote font that's only fit to be read at font-weight: 100 but that remote font doesn't actually load because I block them is one of the worst experiences of attempts to read text.

Thankfully, extensions like Stylus exist.

@abnv @samebchase I think editors like Helix, VSCode, or Zed (as you mentioned in another post) might be more suitable considering your requirements rather than text editors like (Neo)vim or Emacs because both of them share the nature of being highly configurable but not making arguably modern choices on behalf of users, such as file trees and syntax highlighting for all languages out of the box.

I admit that I find myself lacking time these days to configure Neovim or Emacs to my liking ๐Ÿ˜… but I also know that any function I write as configuration in either of these editors will serve me for years to come, eventually saving me time and energy that I might spend fighting against another editor that might make choices I donโ€™t agree with, such as out of the box syntax highlighting with more than 3-4 distinct hues of color, black, grey, red, and green.

I like how TJ DeVries calls (Neo)vim a PDE (Personalised Development Environment) rather than an IDE.

@samebchase The most alarming point in the article for me was how individuals will foot the bill in data center costs as well, regardless of their involvement with AI.

A 2024 report from the Virginia legislature estimated that average residential ratepayers in the state could pay an additional $37.50 every month in data center energy costs.

@diffroot Sounds a bit funny considering RBI is now forcing banks to use the .bank.in domain.

Whoops, looks like most Indian TLDs, including .in, now use Tucows as their authoritative nameserver

@q66 I started using it because it seemed interesting and easier to contribute to than Arch ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

not really a deep reason I guess

better man pages for coreutils are definitely a welcome change for me, though

@david_chisnall Even Rogue One felt jarring to watch after I finished watching Andor. The mature themes of Andor are absent from Rogue One and the focus on action was a huge turn off for me.

I don't want to "talk" to my browser. I don't want my browser to "summarize" things. I don't want my browser to "help" me with things. I don't want my browser to do anything except show me web pages and shut the fuck up and get out of the way.

@ariadne I mostly use my Pixel with GrapheneOS for any casual usage but yeah, I try not to spend too much time on my phone. ๐Ÿ˜…
