PLEASE don't post links without an explanation of what the hell they are, if they're not "self-documenting" upon examination (e.g., obvious from the link itself). Remember that images and associated headlines don't always load, and it shouldn't be a big bother to add a line of explanation, and not just say stuff like:
"Wow, this changes everything!": https:// ...
C'mon people. You can do this.

@KarenWyld 😮 today I learnt you have to be a premium subscriber to edit posts on other platforms! It blows my mind people continue to use it.
“The federal government has signed the death warrant for Australia’s most significant ancient artistic treasure, the Indigenous rock art at Murujuga in north Western Australia.
Yesterday’s preliminary approval of a half-century expansion of gas operations right by the 50,000-year-old petroglyphs came on the same day the United Nations urged Australia to rid the region of destructive industry and save the rock engravings, which are eight times older than the Great Pyramids of Egypt.”
All industries which have high energy needs should be required to invest in their own renewable energy projects. (Yes, I get that there will need to be some exceptions for particular types of energy usage.)
@falcennial yes! And it is for these reasons positions of power are created within hostile environments. It ensures only those who don't give a fuck are in those positions. Making it ever more difficult for the rest of us to make any change.
We all need to get behind people who do give a fuck and support them into these positions so they can remove the hostilities before we can make any real progress on improving things. But it has to be a team effort, purposefully without infighting, or it will fail which is exactly why the system is designed that way.
@Jessica do you have a link? I can't find any info on this except references to plugins.
“Consideration of projects under the EPBC Act does not allow the minister to consider climate impacts of a project.” We know..
#auspol #environment #law
That’s why you 1) excluded climate trigger from environment law 2) made a bogus ‘safeguard’ with loopholes that doesn’t allow a minister legal right of refusal. So new gas & coal can’t be stopped.
Saw yet another post about how "tax cheats are bad bc taxes pay for things in the US" and omfg learn some modern monetary theory you absolute clownfuckers. The reason that your schools and hospitals are broke is because the people running your country are rancid, penny pinching, austerity loving, poor punishing chodes, not because there's not enough money to go around. Money isn't shat out by the gold fairy any more, dumbass.
Oh no.
I've just found out that LambCare Australia is looking for foster carers for baby lambs that need bottle feeding and cuddling during winter.
Reminder: As of a year ago, the Australian government was sitting on at least 1300 pages relating to the estimated 1000 Australians then serving in the Israeli Defence Force, potentially engaging in the Gazan war, and refused to share the information.
We are still being kept from knowledge of how many, if any, are complicit in alleged war crimes in Gaza, however, given the time-frame, it is a reasonable assumption some have returned and are currently loose in the community.
US threatens to sanction foreign public officials involved in moderating online hate-speech.

There’s a new COVID variant driving up infections. A virologist explains what to know about NB.1.8.1.
Researchers found NB.1.8.1 had the strongest binding to the human ACE2 receptors, a “doorway” to our cells, of several variants tested—suggesting it may infect cells more efficiently than other variants.

"New Environment Minister Murray Watt says he’s imposed conditions to protect the rock art, but hasn’t made them public; whether they are adequate remains to be seen. Even if they are, this fossil fuel expansion is a climate wrecker, and the gas extension and expansion will further compromise the cultural landscape.
“This government, with a fresh mandate and huge majority, which tells us over and over it’s taking action on climate change, has just failed its biggest test with this disgraceful decision.
“Despite the mandate, despite the majority, it’s unleashed a 50-year carbon bomb on the planet.”
@web_goddess which is why most execs are mediocre at best. And why I think flat hierarchy businesses do better.
Great talk from Leigh Gibson about high-performing teams and psychological safety. Dirty secret of leadership: high-perf teams make your job look too easy. To get promoted to exec, you need big problems (thus low trust). Oof. Depressing but true. #slashNEW25
My work was used in a recent piece for The Conversation: "There’s a new COVID variant driving up infections. A virologist explains what to know about NB.1.8.1".
The links in the paragraph starting "Genomic sequencing has confirmed NB.1.8.1 …" point to my report for Australia, from my regular variant analysis. I update that and my similar reports for other countries and regions weekly.
I didn’t get named as a contributor, which is a little disappointing, but seems to be typical for this outlet. IAC it’s good to see my work is useful.
The piece seems an excellent summary of the latest news, data and research on NB.1.8.1 (recently nicknamed "Nimbus"), by AProf Lara Herrero of Griffith Uni.
