@thenotexpert Pico-8 is great. It really defined cozy game dev. If it's not quite right for you though, I recommend checking out an open source alternative called TIC-80.

@shanecelis I love this project, looks great. Are you planning on making an Android build? Love to have this on handheld.
Have y'all heard about this?

The Wait for #GodotEngine just got shorter.
Godot 4.5 Dev4 just dropped and IMHO it's the best Dev release yet with specular occlusion, stackable Label effects, C# on Web progress and more.
@ldx Not often you see a bitsy game with no text. Very nice.
made a videogame

@NovaSquirrel I have played all the way up to 8-4 in SMB 1 but I still have yet to beat it to this day.

@lianna Godot is a great game engine, definitely recommend, but...
If you'd like more of your Pico-8 experience to transfer you might want to consider https://love2d.org/ instead. It is Lua based.

๐ #Picotron 0.1 has been out for exactly one year, so it seems like a fitting time to release 0.2 with Binary Exporters :D ๐๐
You can get it now from lexaloffle: https://picotron.net (humble uploads coming soonish). To export to Windows, Mac and Linux:
> export foo.bin
Like PICO-8, it generates ready-to-distribute zip files. The manual also has some notes about possible future uses: https://www.lexaloffle.com/dl/docs/picotron_manual.html#Exporting_Binary_Executables
#picotron 0.1.1e binaries are up! https://www.picotron.net
Changelog: https://www.lexaloffle.com/dl/docs/picotron_changelog.txt
0.1.1e now sandboxes bbs carts by default. See: https://www.lexaloffle.com/dl/docs/picotron_manual.html#File_Sandboxing
@michaelkoloch I was disappointed at first, but after a moment I realized that it really did fit the vibe. Leaving you with a sense of hopelessness.
@michaelkoloch I beat this game. Fun and fascinating, very well made. The ending was... an interesting choice, but it definitely made the game more unique.
Up until now, we held all of our annual GodotCon events in Europe, but after the request of many of you and thanks to help from Boston Game Dev and Godot Users Group, we are finally able to bring the event to the US for the first time.

My new project, still working on the title, will be a 3D camping experience where you play as a traveler riding a motorbike across country on a long journey to return to your old hometown to take care of some long overdue business. Think I'm going to go low-spec; target the web, but with game controller support. Hoping to make it a cozy adventure. I will probably publish the first version as free, (donations accepted) and then consider making a paid version later.
I'm also putting my previous project "Taco Truck in Space" on hold for a bit. I still think it's a great idea for a mobile game and plan on returning, but I just want to work on something else for a while. I was stalling a bit on it admittedly. I think starting fresh later, like maybe this summer, will give me a new perspective on it.
