I picked up a Nintendo DS Lite at the take it or leave it pile at the transfer station. What do I do now?

It powers up and plays a Finding Nemo game that was in the DS card slot

I think Apple will regret using “animation” as the name for one of the styles of static images their AI can generate. Probably they will regret it when their AI can generate animations.

I did a blog post about using AI as an artist to write an artist statement: www.blakebrasher.org/blog/artists-using-ai-but-not-like-that

Artists, have you done this? How great was it?

“I Squeezed Some Lemons”

40 x 30 inches.
acrylic, collage, and marker on wood panel.
2024

Now available on Singulart:

singulart.com/en/artworks/blak

In this vibrant dance of color and form, I've melded acrylic and collage to craft a symphony of abstract expression. The playful yellow dabs form a pattern of growth evoking a zest for life, which juxtaposed over intricate patterns of black and silver that hint at life's complexities. It's a visual exploration of joy layered over chaos; a reminder to embrace the spontaneous.

The painting incorporates collaged elements including illustrations and text cut out of a Richard Scarry children's storybook, Star Trek trading cards from the 1990's that I bought as a teenager, and micro-SD to SD card adapters with their little gold fingers. The little hearts are drawn on post-it notes and then cut out and pasted on. It's a swirling vortex of nostalgia and influences and going concerns. Each brushstroke and splash of paint carries my heartfelt energy.

"The One With J. L. Pipes"

60 x 48 inches
acrylic, collage, and marker on wood panel.

Now available on Saatchi Art:

saatchiart.com/art/Painting-Th

This is a beautiful abstract painting with lots of warm oranges, yellows, and pinks. It's a multi-layered composition with various collaged elements mixed in. The title refers to an old Star Trek trading card from my youth that has been collaged in and not been painted over like all the other collaged elements have but instead has had a hastily painted frame in grey paint drawn around it. The card features Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, who they call J. L. Pipes on account of his big arm muscles over on the Greatest Generation podcast, which is an audio program I am fond of.

There is a dreamy lyrical quality to this composition, with various patterns and collage elements pushed back into the distance or pulled to the front in a sort of slow vortex of toxic nostalgia mixed with hopes and dreams.

"Cotton Candy Mud Slide"

Title: "Cotton Candy Mud Slide"

60 x 36"
acrylic, ink, and holographic glitter on canvas.
2014

This is a painting in acrylic and ink with holographic glitter on canvas. This painting was made on a pre-stretched Blick "Premier" canvas. The sides have been painted pink and paint is dripping over the sides from the surface composition in places (see detail images).

This is a wild composition and is quite vertical. It's a bit of a psychedelic rollercoaster. The name "Cotton Candy Mudslide" comes from the combination of the candy coated color scheme and the way the whole thing seems to be coming at you all at once. Once you're in the composition, though, there are many paths your eyes can take that lead you through the piece's layered complexity. This is one you will be finding new little favorite spots in for years.

This is a very lovely painting done in acrylic, acrylic medium, and Sharpie marker on un-primed canvas. I work on the canvas on a workbench before it is stretched, with various tools and techniques. The canvas is stretched after it has fully dried, and so the composition extends around the edges.
