If 2026 were a shopping mall, it would probably look like this. Cartoon for Dutch newspaper Trouw: trouw.nl/cartoons/tjeerd-royaa

#fascism #racism #manosphere #tradwives #democracy

Cartoon showing the inside of a shopping mall with different stores and people walking around with shopping bags. One store sells fascist paraphernalia and has the text 'Celebrating Fascism' on its window. Another store is called 'Outrage: Fact-Free Opinions'. Two other stores are titled 'Manosphere' and 'Tradwives' and feature pictures of a muscular man and a smiling woman in a housewife's dress respectively. In the corner of the mall is a small bookshop with the text 'Human rights, democracy, diversity, facts' on the window. A sign behind the glass reads 'Out of business'. Two persons are looking at an information sign that says: '2026 Shopping Mall: xenophobia, go left, conspiracies, go right, prejudice, straight ahead'

In 2025, Big Tech—just ten major companies—spent €49 million lobbying Brussels. That’s more than pharma, finance, and automotive combined.

Google funds all sixteen major European think tanks shaping EU policy. Not *some* of them. All of them. Amazon and Meta fund most of the rest.

This is no longer “poor old me, I need a bit of help,” this is full regulatory capture. With a view to becoming even more embedded into businesses and governments, and getting whatever favorable legislation passed or diluted to suit them.

RE: mastodon.nl/@bert_hubert/11600

A reasonable summary of the field (a technologist's eye view). Note that the insane economic bubble has very little to do with the underlying technologies. LLMs are impressive but not very useful; other areas of AI/ML that don't get the gosh-wow coverage—pattern reconizers—are potentially revolutionary for a variety of fields.

If you take just one thing away from this is it.
👇🏽
“If we lose our democracies, Open Source is irrelevant and goes away”

or putting it another way:

If we don’t apply, enforce, adopt and embrace Open Source in our public and government institutions we risk to lose our democracies.

Boost if you agree!

Just tried moving my htpc (Dell OptiPlex Micro 7010) to Fedora Workstation, and now i'm reinstalling Windows 11 once again. Why can't sound just work in Linux? :sadlinux: (tl;dr; i'm using a active DP to HDMI 2.0a adapter to get working 4@60 to my TV) #fedora #linux #sound #fail

Other:
- Need to make some scripts to delever mail from some other mailboxes (pop3/imap) since google has axed that feature.
- don't really want the hassle of self-hosting.

Any tips, advice or thoughts are welcome, thanks.

- @stalwartlabs
- already have a self-hosted playground on a @hetzner CAX11 with a clean IP.
- on debian, no containers I wan't working IPv6, caddy (reverse proxy) and authelia (IAM).
- partial ansible playbook to set everything up.

I looking for some #degoogle advice around #mail, #calendar and #contacts.

Must have:
- score 100% on the @internet_nl e-mail test.
- strong mfa (webauthn/passkeys) at least for all things web (especially the administration portal and webmail).
- strong (6~8 word passphrases, preferably one I can set my self) device passwords (for smtp/imap etc...).
- bring my own domains.
- filtering (preferably sieve).
- personal, so only a few users.
- hosted in the eu preferably in the nl or next to it
