Oh, and I co-host the FAKE PRESIDENTS podcast. (It's about exactly what the title says it's about -- a look at fictional American presidents from pop culture, to see just how much fiction there really is)

Anyone know how to fix a transcript in Apple Podcasts's new auto-generated transcripts feature? Since the transcript appears right on the episode homepage, it'd be nice, you know, to have my name spelled correctly...

Transcript from Apple Podcasts new auto-transcript feature with the name of the host spelled incorrectly. It's Buchman with an "h" not Buckman with a "k." The full screengrab reads: "Welcome to Fake Presidents, a real podcast about, well, you know. Each episode, we will take a deep dive into a fictional American president from popular culture. To see just how much fiction there really is, I'm Eric Buckman, a former political consultant turned television writer."

I initially didn't really get Castro's "triage" approach to podcasts... until I found myself following/subscribing to dozens of podcasts but NOT wanting to listen to every episode of most of them. Suddenly it made sense. So much so, that I've tweaked EVERY podcast app I use to essentially recreate the feature. If Castro dies completely, I might have to share those tweaks for others...

Read in context, Xitter says that it's mission is to provide a platform for hate speech, a topic of paramount importance, unfettered by observations that it is hate speech.

65. Most fundamentally, X Corp. has been harmed in its mission to provide its users
with a platform in which topics of paramount public concern can be discussed and debated free
from the censorship efforts of activist organizations advancing narrow ideological agendas
through deceitful means.

IN 2007 THE WGA WENT ON STRIKE TO, ABOVE ALL, GET NEW MEDIA COVERAGE. PER TRADITION, THE DGA USED OUR STRIKE TO GET LEVERAGE FOR THEIR OWN DEAL, WHICH THEY SIGNED WHILE WE WERE OUT PICKETING. CONFLICT BETWEEN SAG AND AFTRA PREVENTED THEM FROM UNITING FOR A LABOR ACTION, SO WGA WAS ISOLATED. AFTER A HARD 100 DAYS WE ACCEPTED THE DGA'S STUDIO-FRIENDLY NEW MEDIA FORMULAS AS THE PATTERN FOR OUR OWN DEAL. I STARTED SEEING NEW MEDIA RESIDUALS IN 2010. THIS STATEMENT SHOWS THE BREAKDOWN OF MY RESIDUALS SINCE THEN. THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF MY RESIDUAL INCOME STILL COMES FROM FREE TV/BASIC CABLE AND PAY TV. NEW MEDIA REPRESENTS 7.6% OF THE TOTAL, EVEN THOUGH THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF RE-USE OF MY WORK HAS BEEN ON NEW MEDIA PLATFORMS. AS STUDIOS CONTINUE TO SHIFT TO STREAMING, THAT NEW MEDIA PERCENTAGE WILL GO UP, BUT MY INCOME WILL GO DOWN. A LOT. SO WILL YOURS.

Found something remarkable (and also quite sad).

In 1997, Wired published "The Long Boom", a hyper-optimistic article about how we'd achieve Utopia by 2020.

The authors included notes on some "scenario spoilers"—negative events that might send is in a worse direction.

...and those spoilers turned out to be almost spookily accurate.

wired.com/1997/07/longboom/

10 Scenario Spoilers

The long boom is a scenario, one possible future. It’s built upon the convergence of many big forces and even more little pieces falling into place—all of them with a positive twist. The future of course, could turn out to be very different—particularly if a few of those big pieces go haywire. Here are 10 things that could cut short the long boom.

1. Tensions between China and the US escalate into a new Cold War—bordering on a hot one.

2. New technologies turn out to be a bust. They simply don’t bring the expected productivity increases or the big economic boosts.

3. Russia devolves into a kleptocracy run by a mafia or retreats into quasicommunist nationalism that threatens Europe.

4. Europe’s integration process grinds to a halt. Eastern and western Europe can’t finesse a reunification, and even the European Union process breaks down.5. Major ecological crisis causes a global climate change that, among other things, disrupts the food supply—causing big price increases everywhere and sporadic famines.

6. Major rise in crime and terrorism forces the world to pull back in fear. People who constantly feel they could be blown up or ripped off are not in the mood to reach out and open up.

7. The cumulative escalation in pollution causes a dramatic increase in cancer, which overwhelms the ill-prepared health system.

8. Energy prices go through the roof. Convulsions in the Middle East disrupt the oil supply, and the alternative energy sources fail to materialize.

9. An uncontrollable plague—a modern-day influenza epidemic or its equivalent—takes off like wildfire, killing upward of 200 million people.

10. A social and cultural backlash stops progress dead in its tracks. Human beings need to choose to move forward. They just may not …

Three things gleaned from this story:

1. Florida continues to suck (I say as someone born and raised in the state)

2. Stand Your Ground laws only exist to justify irresponsible gun use

3. the sheriff's usage of "lawful but awful" is the understatement of the week

Bonus takeaway: The pool cleaner is only alive because this Florida Man is a legendarily bad shot. Like, 30-rounds-from-an-AR-15-and-they-all-miss bad shot.
