The WGA win (which still needs to be ratified by membership vote) is a huge signal of the power of organized labour as the main tool to fight back against runaway capitalism.

HUMO BLANCO: Ahora si, se acabó la huelga de cinco meses de guionistas de Hollywood, porque el acuerdo alcanzado con los estudios y productoras fue ratificado por las autoridades del sindicato WGA. Los guionistas ya estarían volviendo a trabajar.

Las principales conquistas del acuerdo incluyen requerimientos mínimos de guionistas a contratrar según cantidad de episodios por temporada de una serie, la posibilidad de que guionistas menos experimentados puedan formar parte del proceso de produccion y post-producción para aprender todos los aspectos del negocio (y algún día ser showrunners), cantidad mínima de tiempo de empleo para series cortas (algo que permita acceder a seguros de salud), y previsiones sobre el uso de la inteligencia artificial.

Grandes avances fueron hechos en el campo de las remuneraciones. En primer lugar, se obtuvo una importante bonificación para series y películas hechas para streaming que tengan un gran éxito en la plataforma. Además, se consiguió un aumento importante de las regalías recibidas por streaming en mercados fuera de EEUU para las plataformas más importantes.

Otra conquista fue que la gran mayoría de los guionistas de cine recibirán un pago adicional por al menos una re-escritura de los guiones. La asociación de estudios y productoras quiso limitar esto a trabajos no basados de obras anteriores (reboots, remakes, adpataciones, etc), pero la WGA estaba preocupada de que eso aumentara la cantidad de producciones de este tipo que se llevaran a cabo.
