FontGoggles tip: open a UFO with FontGoggles, and open the features.fea file it contains with a text editor. Make changes, save. FontGoggles will recompile the features and update the view, almost instantaneously (depending on the complexity of the feature file). Also works with referenced ("include") fea files.

I've been working on an algorithm to automatically place X/Y coordinate labels 'ideally' on a bezier drawing of a letter. It's certainly not perfect yet but it's been a fun problem to hack on.
