Just me and my tattoos... and the latest additions.
@glynmoody no thanks... I'll keep mine without any regrets.
The Torre do Relógio e Porta Medieval is the former #keep and all that remains of the #medieval #castle of the Castelo de Caminha.
At the time of the Roman invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, the area was endowed with a fortress, whose foundations date back to the fourth and fifth centuries.
During the Christian Reconquest, the defenses were reinforced and expanded. The town and its castle are recorded in drawings by Duarte de Armas in his Book of Fortresses, c. 1509. #portugal
The Church of Mercy in #caminha #portugal was started in 1559, but only the main portal remains of the original construction. Reconstruction and remodeling to improve the church began in 1651. All that remains of the #renaissance church is the #plateresque style portal.
Some #baroque features are also present: the #baroque styled bell tower and the upper choir with baroque stalls and organ.
Caminha railway station is part of the #minho line, which serves the town of #caminha #portugal
It was inaugurated on 1 July 1878.
The building is decorated with twenty figurative tile panels, produced in the 1930s. Painted by the artist Gilberto Renda, the panels depict customs, landscapes, monuments, and typical activities of the region.

@portugal would be nice to know how much is attributed to the smoking of cigarettes and the inhalation of secondhand smoke.
@ProPublica incompetence? Call it what it is... out right corruption. Stop making excuses for fascism.
@DemocracyMattersALot dude can't keep his mouth zipped.
@TheBulwark @the-bulwark-online-TheBulwark the "old guard" is why we are in the predicament we are in. They chased corporations and big money and abandoned the unions and working class. They are part of the problem, and they still can't get their act together.

@eviljarred no . We took an early flight and arrived in barcelona at eleven. The train to Toulouse was at 2. They did scan our passports before we boarded. We were in Toulouse by six thirty.
@eviljarred I went to Belver for a quiet getaway. There's a family run hotel there and had it to myself. Visited the Belver castle, hiked the trails, and took the train back to Almourol station and hiked to the castle, ate snails and drank beer at the kiosk there. Pleasant.
@eviljarred the landscape of central Portugal reminded me of west Texas.
@eviljarred Timing is everything, especially when you need to be somewhere. Last summer I just flew to Barcelona, then took the train to Toulouse and continued the rest of my 2 weeks in France by train and then ended in Zaragoza, and the came back to Lisbon directly by bus. I still prefer the train though.
@eviljarred If spending the night in Badajoz, the NH Collection has a hotel/casino within walking distance to the train station. The town center and Alcazaba in Badajoz are also worth a day's visit.
@eviljarred You were kind describing the Entrocamento to Badajoz train as "a test of patience." 😆 The vibrations of the carriage were nerve-racking. However, the landscape was a feast for the eyes. Did you, by chance, remember seeing Almourol Castle as the train followed the Tagus before dipping south? One can also see Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça before entering the station at Elvis.
