The notes are all right in front of you, each key gives instant feedback per note, there are no extra pieces to fuss with, and the knowledge you gain from learning piano transfers more easily to other instruments (than, say, flute, which has a bunch of fussy stuff to remember that is unique to flute).

@nigelharpur I hear you. I've bought very little from the UK in years (including music). I can't afford it. A £20 record with £20 shipping costs nearly $75 CAD. Not to mention potential customs charges. :/
