When I first heard about Mastodon, I thought of the heavy metal band, which tells you a lot about me (particularly generationally).

Pardon me while I immediately pin this to my account.

Meme using a still from Star Trek: the Next Generation.

Picard stands on the left of the Enterprise bridge, head bent over in weary, barely-holding-it-together tolerant patience. He is labeled "People who follow me for one topic."

On the right is Q, fronting for an entire mariachi band, lustily blowing into a trumpet. He is labeled "The rest of my interests."

I'm sorry, folks.

Please boost for reach. My dad wants a small computer for his birthday, to be used mainly for playing music in Winamp. As such, he doesn't need a real powerhouse. I've been looking at some approx. $150 stick computers on Amazon but some of them seem to get mixed reviews. He'd love Windows 10 as that's what we have on all our other PC's. He'd also love an audio output jack so he wouldn't need to use an external sound device, though I know that might be hard/impossible to find in this form factor. He's totally blind so it does need to run NVDA. He knows nothing about Linux, and I know nothing about Linux for this use case, so a Pi or similar that runs Linux isn't an option. Any recommendations?

Evolution of night trains for the Iberian peninsula

The image is two maps of France and the Iberian peninsula. One map, representing 2009, shows many (more than 10) night trains all across the map. The other map, representing 2022, shows a single night train from Paris to multiple points on the border between France and Spain.

But he also insists that you can only do all this if you do the reading: "it bears stressing that ... there is no way of doing such readings as mine, no way of understanding the 'structure of attitude and reference' except by working through the novel." But if you do the reading *right* you see how it's never self-contained: "But in reading it carefully, we can sense how ideas about dependent races and territories were held both by foreign-office executives, colonial bureaucrats, and military strategists and by intelligent novel-readers educating themselves in the fine points of moral evaluation, literary balance, and stylistic finish."

So if you're going to take the texts seriously, you better take the context seriously as well, and vice versa. There's some stuff in the chapter that I don't like, but it's hard to disagree with that and it seems to be the consensus.
