Zine alert! ❇️ Zine alert! ✳️ To kick off my pixelfed feed, I figured that I should share my latest perzine here. What was supposed to just be a mini zine about my favorite green hair dyes transformed into a 20-page perzine pondering why dyed hair feels like “me” (and there’s still a 2-page spread about my favorite green hair dyes in there, too.) Sometimes it’s easy bein’ green. 🐸💚🌿

My natural hair is — to quote a tweet by my chem’s gerard way — the color of a church mouse, but for the past couple of years, I’ve taken to bleaching the ends and then slathering my whole head in a fragrant green goo, resulting in a sort of ombre from bark to a vibrant, vivid vert.
When I look in the mirror, green hair just feels like “me”, more natural than my natural blondish-brown. Or at least this moss green ombre look feels like “me” for now. Pastel pink once felt the most me until I got sick of bleaching my roots level 30 pale. And the black I sported for years (sometimes with an orange under-dye) felt pretty much natural until the boredom set in, and the commitment and permanence of black dye started to bother me. So many things are just zine-coded to me, like typewriter fonts and raccoons and little free libraries and Jawbreaker. I was scrolling social media a few weeks ago and realized that green hair probably deserves a spot on the list.
