#Reticulum - Unstoppable Networks for The People

2026-02-07

If you have half an hour to reflect on important matters, I encourage you to read the Zen of #Reticulum.

reticulum.network/manual/zen.h

This text managed to make me hopeful. With the current state of the world, I haven't had that experience in quite some time.

Definitely recommended!

@maexchen1 I think I've located associated RNodes by an operator from Gothenburg, Sweden. They start with the same name.

2026-02-06

@maexchen1 Turns out I was too harsh on the router.

I managed to get it to work with an interface configuration from directory.rns.recipes/

Easier than expected, once I knew where to look. ๐Ÿ˜…

2026-02-06

@maexchen1 I tried, but I can't get my basic ISP-provided router to play nice. Perhaps I'll give that another try soon.

And you're right about MeshCore. It feels quite different from just a few months ago.

2026-02-06

By the way, using rnodeconf to set up the T-Echo was slightly easier than setting it up as a #MeshCore companion node using flasher.meshcore.co.uk/ and that is already a piece of cake.

My compliments to all the developers who worked on making this possible!

Decided to give #Reticulum a go with a Raspberry Pi 5 and a T-Echo. It works! No other nodes around, though.

How I did it:

- Follow this guide: reticulum.network/manual/hardw

- On the Raspberry Pi 5, use pip with the flag --break-system-packages (sounds scary, but isn't)

- Get the serial port for the T-Echo with dmesg (mine is /dev/ttyACM1)

- Configure interface: reticulum.network/manual/inter

Then I enabled transport and played around with #NomadNet. I'm still alone, but the configuration works!

"These reasonings are unconnected: "I am richer than you, therefore I am better"; "I am more eloquent than you, therefore I am better." The connection is rather this: "I am richer than you, therefore my property is greater than yours;" "I am more eloquent than you, therefore my style is better than yours." But you, after all, are neither property nor style. (44)."

Samen houden we #MeshCore leuk.

@adingbatponder Yeah, I've been using MeshCore for a few months now, and the network is very, very active here. So whenever I get my hands on some extra gear (either new or because it needs a firmware update) I can give Reticulum a proper chance.

2026-02-04

What I imagine Dutch #MeshCore to be like in an emergency situation. Only half joking.

An image by a generative AI tool of a Big Tech company that used to encourage people not to be evil, depicting a man sitting in an apocalyptic wasteland with a camp fire, looking at his smartphone that shows nothing but messages along the line of "Good morning" and "Test", as is common on the Public channel on the Dutch MeshCore network.
2026-02-04

@adingbatponder I think I'll do that the next time I have some devices available that are destined for MeshCore.
Just testing it for myself is enough to check it off my list. Then I'll know if I want a permanent setup.
I'm still intrigued by the whole Reticulum premise, and would love to participate in the network.

2026-02-04

@adingbatponder Thanks! I wanted to see if I could get it to work over the internet first, but I'm starting to think LoRa might be easier to set up in my case.
Perhaps I'll just have to be the first in my area. ๐Ÿ˜„

@ivovanvulpen.bsky.social @bert_hubert Niets mis met een beetje chaos engineering om de vinger op de zere plek te leggen. En stukken beter dan wachten tot de chaos zich onvermijdelijk een keer aandient.

2026-02-03

@Netraven Yes, there is something like that. The base for Chrome is #Chromium, which is open-source. It may require a bit of tinkering to get it running. That depends on the operating system.

More info on chromium.org/getting-involved/

Good luck!

2026-02-02

@malwarelab_eu That's good to know. I expect to flash one or more Heltec v3 boards as MeshCore repeaters for friends and family at some point. Might as well run a Reticulum test beforehand.

2026-02-02

@malwarelab_eu Thank you for your reply!
That sounds encouraging. Whenever I get my hands on an extra spare T-Echo or Heltec board, I'll give it a go. Testing with only one RNode in this setup wouldn't be that useful.

2026-02-02

Today I tried getting #Reticulum running on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W in my home network. It seems the Zyxel router my ISP gave me is fine for regular use, but doesn't play nice with Reticulum.

Has anyone in the #MeshCore scene (or adjacent) managed to get Reticulum running over #LoRa? I'm looking for encouragement before trying to turn my T-Echo into an #RNode. ๐Ÿ˜…
