@bbolker treesifter lookes more upper level, though excellent. I had in mind something that lets users generate simple strings of short sequences, shows an alignment and a tree, where the user controls a few parameters. Just to get the idea of what phylogenetic inference is about.

@danielbolnick `treesiftr` looks somewhat useful (just searched for it), but not sure what you're after (it would be fun to have a much more basic teaching tool with capabilities like "find the MRCA/visualize a hypothesis about the evolution of a discrete character/flip branches/evaluate whether two trees are equivalent" https://wrightaprilm.github.io/treesiftr/articles/00-Instuctor-Guide.html https://wrightaprilm.github.io/treesiftr/ (author not on Mastodon ...)
