All @ACM publications will be 100% Open Access as of January 2026. When we announced this at POPL and CHI this year, conference participants spontaneously erupted in applause. The CS community is excited about ACM's move to OA!
@wilbowma this is what the youth call malicious compliance

@davidthewid I also am in academia lately, but my life experience inside and outside of academia has convinced me that being able to give and receive critical yet encouraging feedback are the two most important skills humans can build.
Today I am choosing not to cite a year-old AI related pre-print that has not yet been peer reviewed, even though it perfectly makes a point I want to be true— and many others have cited it.
The methods section seems a bit incomplete, so the longer it goes un-published the more concerned I get.
If you need other humans to put their bodies on the line to protect kids from getting hit by cars maybe the cars are the problem? https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/education/crossing-guards-paying-off-at-las-vegas-valley-middle-schools-3303977/
AI Countergovernance: Lessons Learned from Canada and Paris
1. Strong interpersonal relationships and ad hoc coalitions are needed.
2. Localized governance initiatives allow workplaces, organizations, and communities to build resources and power to determine if, when, and how AI should be adopted within specific contexts.
3. AI awareness and education should come from the bottom up: communities can build knowledge of how #AI impacts them and can be regulated by them.

@bkeegan how are they asking you to "act now"?

I recently gave one of the best talks of my career thus far, and thankfully it was recorded, so I figured I share that here!

wow, turns out that being on a long term course of steroids while on the job market while the country implodes is really taking a lot out of me. not fun!
Right gotcha, for a sec I thought you meant Ruha was saying that, which would have made me skeptical.
@hipsterelectron who at AIS is saying that?
Wrote a short blog post about the workshop we ran at CSCW 2024 in November of last year about contestability in AI value chains. Includes a canvas made by Mireia Yurrita and me to help guide one of the group activities. https://leapfrog.nl/blog/archives/2025/02/10/on-mapping-ai-value-chains/
@hipsterelectron @jtlg 🥁 when trans youth are under attack, what does James do? DOES NOT HOLD BACK 🥁
Op ed by Cornell Professor James Grimmelmann @jtlg "Cornell Must Defend Its Values", on the university cowardly backing away from its support for Trans youth.
Powerful stuff, we love it when tenure armor is put to good use:
