Happy New Year, #fediverse!
Inspired by the Rachel #Maddow Presents #ULTRA #podcast to dive into this - Hitler in Los Angeles by Steven J. Ross - and it stirs up fascination, horror and #Jewish pride in equal measure. Really wishing #SydneyPollack were still alive to direct whatever film is eventually based on this.
The plan was to delay and obstruct investigations until he could rig the 2024 Presidential election, return to the WH (and immunity) and then go right back to grifting while our democracy crumbled around him. Most of us have known and understood this since, what, early 2016? But the picture is only now coming into full view and I’m grateful for every single person who helped add a brush stroke here, some color there and esp those who painted the big fat lines that should never be crossed. #Trump
Oh #NewEngland
I just picked my 13YO up from school. She had an ALICE drill today, the first time in years she’s had to barricade herself in the room and sit there quietly in the dark (as opposed to escaping).
She knew it was a drill but she was still scared.
It happened during French class. One of her classmates asked the young teacher, born in Paris, what ALICE drills were like in France. “They don’t do ALICE drills in France.”
No other country traumatizes our kids like this. @shannonrwatts
This article from Ian Bogost in The Atlantic was eye opening. He draws a distinction between #socialnetworks and #socialmedia and why the latter is more problematic. It helped me understand why my own relationship with #Facebook (where most of my posts are private and my “friends” are almost exclusively IRL contacts or friends thereof) seems healthier than my relationship with Twitter… or here. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2022/11/twitter-facebook-social-media-decline/672074/
