@dbread ..which is why I flash OpenWRT on all my routers 👍
TP-link gear is usually well supported if you want to go this way.
@falken @dbread Can't happen with Zigbee or Z-Wave. They're open protocols. Matter isn't quite there yet, but is supposed to be the same.
Many IoT devices can be fairly easily flashed with different firmware, too. There are a lot of devices that run off ESP32 chips, and can be flashed to work with ESPHome. Shelly devices, for example can mostly be flashed with generic ESP32 firmware.
@dbread our TVs don’t have cameras. We don’t have smart speakers etc. More worried about them sniffing other things on our home network.
VLANs/subnets require a fair bit of knowledge, but could cover it in a 20-30 minute video. The real barrier is having equipment that supports it. Not aware of any consumer grade equipment that fits the bill.
Just like that but with less Lego analogy.
We are at the cutting point where we write software docs for humans and extra docs for #llm s.
"Better Auth provides an LLMs.txt file that helps AI models understand how to interact with your authentication system. You can find it at https://better-auth.com/llms.txt."

Waiting for the ai self - generated memes where the documentation does not match the implementation #LOL
"Trapping AI" – Slight Update! 🌀
Activity in the "Trapping AI" project is accelerating: in just under a month, over 26 million requests have hit our tarpit URLs 🕳️. Vast volumes of meaningless content were devoured by AI crawlers — ruthless digital leeches that relentlessly scour and pillage the web, leaving no data untouched.
In the coming days, we’ll roll out a new layer of complexity — amplifying both the intensity and offensiveness of our approach. This escalation builds on fakejpeg
, a tool developed by @pengfold.
🖼️ fakejpeg
generates fake JPEGs on the fly. You "train" it with a collection of existing JPEGs, and once trained, it can produce an arbitrary number of things that look like real JPEGs — perfect for feeding aggressive web crawlers junk 🗑️.

We're here avoiding food waste in our kitchens. 😑
@Slash909uk didn't think this project is still maintained. Great hint!
@dbread Correct, don't even need an app. You can use one of the many "offline" hubs to run them - Smartthings, Homey, Hubitat, Home Assistant are four examples.
I've used both Smartthings and Home Assistant in the past, currently I'm using a Homey Pro.
@CiscoJunkie Sounds like a good way to handle the things but how to access your devices in the untrusted zone and at the same time block them calling to your subnet?
@theolodian I am creeped by the lots of news on hacked smart-TVs where the cameras are streaming to the internets. So no such TV :)
VLANs seem to be the right way, but requires some knowhow.
