Wenn Bigtech den Moralapostel spielt

blog.sengotta.net/wenn-bigtech

BAD NEWS: Wicked Weasel has been increasingly targeted by big tech, making it very hard for us to operate effectively for our customers. 1. In the last 18 months, Google has censored our search results, destroying much of our organic traffic that has been built up since WW went online way back in 1999. 2. Important social platforms regularly suppress our content and limit any reach. 3. Our beloved YouTube account painstakingly built up over a decade, with 388,000+ subscribers? Deleted outright with zero warning. Every time we try to grow our loyal community or reach new people, we hit another wall. It’s been incredibly frustrating, and the current situation is no longer financially viable. THE SOLUTION: We are moving all our Classic WW styles (unlined, mesh, sheer/bare vision, etc.) to our Microminimus Store to avoid triggering censorship on our main site. You’ll find all your favourite options there. You can filter only for WW Classics HERE, or also include the MM-branded releases HERE. Both are made using the same fabric sources, made the same way, using the same quality control methods.

USians who have a problem with #ICE, a poll. Amazon is an ICE service provider. They're making millions in profit by providing ICE infrastructure.

Bezos is generally bootlicking and aside from that #Amazon has increasingly shown itself to be an increasingly enshittified company. I'm not going to try to list all the reasons.

I'm sure I could come up with additional answers but this will do.

"Microsoft has used OpenAI’s billions in inference spend to cover up the collapse of the growth of the Intelligent Cloud segment. OpenAI’s inference spend now represents around 10% of Azure’s revenue.

Microsoft, as I discussed a few weeks ago, is in a bind. It keeps buying GPUs, all while waiting for the GPUs it already has to start generating revenue, and every time a new GPU comes online, its depreciation balloons. Capex for GPUs began in seriousness in Q1 FY2023 following October’s shipments of NVIDIA’s H100 GPUs, with reports saying that Microsoft bought 150,000 H100s in 2023 (around $4 billion at $27,000 each) and 485,000 H100s in 2024 ($13 billion). These GPUs are yet to provide much meaningful revenue, let alone any kind of profit, with reports suggesting (based on Oracle leaks) that the gross margins of H100s are around 26% and A100s (an older generation launched in 2020) are 9%, for which the technical term is “dogshit.” Somewhere within that pile of capex also lies orders for H200 GPUs, and as of 2024, likely NVIDIA’s B100 (and maybe B200) Blackwell GPUs too.

You may also notice that those GPU expenses are only some portion of Microsoft’s capex, and the reason is because Microsoft spends billions on finance leases and construction costs. What this means in practical terms is that some of this money is going to GPUs that are obsolete in 6 years, some of it’s going to paying somebody else to lease physical space, and some of it is going into building a bunch of data centers that are only useful for putting GPUs in.

And none of this bullshit is really helping the bottom line! Microsoft’s More Personal Computing segment — including Windows, Xbox, Microsoft 365 Consumer, and Bing — has become an increasingly-smaller part of revenue, representing in the latest quarter a mere 17.64% of Microsoft’s revenue in FY26 so far, down from 30.25% a mere four years ago."

#SoftwareDevelopers lack class-awareness since decades.

Back in the '80 #hackers crew were hunted down for a reason: too much awareness of their power, with full control over the means of production, firmly attached over their neck.

We could have led a #revolution.
We built #BigTech infrastructure, instead.

But it's never too late! 😎

Today #LLM and #vibecoding give us full plausible deniability whenever we inject a vulnerability in the software we code!

Good catch!

I urge you to complain to info@techoversight.org

Also, they are not on the #fediverse.

Yet I don't care much about them, and my post was not intended as an endorsement of their organization or future goals.

I just think that people should know why the mainstream #SocialNetworks are so #toxic and #addictive: it's a design goal of the #BigTech running them, and there is no wise or proper or smart way to wield them.

We can only quit them or be worthless puppets obeying their will.

Over the years, I've realized how far we've drifted from the original idea of the World Wide Web. These days, it feels more like a corporate, big-tech web. I think there's real value in self-hosting as much as possible while still using major platforms, especially when you can pick more European and reasonable options.

People often forget that YouTube, WhatsApp, and Instagram were once independent companies, not owned by Meta or Google. Google was meant to be ad-free, and OpenAI was founded as a non-profit research organization, etc.

We'll probably never return to that vision, but I'm glad I own most my data and have about half of my tech self-hosted and open-sourced. It's only a dent, but I'm proud of that dent.

I like what Joseph Gordon-Levitt is doing. It's incredibly tough to stand up to big tech.
